Wilson tried to make a nasty hit against NYR last weekend. This hit is late. How can you think otherwise unless you have not pkayed the game. He had all the time in the world to peel off and keep skating, he glided right in for the kill. This guy knows what he is doing and he's walking the line between a big hit and ending someone's career.
One day somebody is going to hit him late and give him a concussion, I guess that's when he'll realize he needs to change his game.
This is not about the NHL eliminating hits, but the hits intended to take a player out of the game or the season need to be kept in "check". - Hipcheckforthewin
Lmao he’s already had a concussion. It’s hockey. It’s a fast collision sport. What a bunch of pussies. |

Exactly, Wilson knew what he was doing, knew he could destroy someone in a helpless position and took advantage of it. When he got called on it he started to pout and shake his head in the box like the little female dog he is.
The one common factor with Wilson is...this ALWAYS happens with much smaller players than him, but players his size or bigger he doesn't do too well. He is still picking Ryan Reaves ball hair from his teeth after getting slammed so many times.

Ahh yes the small 6’4” 212lb Mark Jankowski. Reaves is still watching Wilson skate around with the cup in his dreams. |

I think he is just a keyboard warrior. Guys like Wilson have to have a very short leash or they will end careers. I think Wilson is one hell of a hockey player and would love him on my team, however he does the Matt Cook thingy too often and that can not be tolerated.

According to Hockey DB the only difference is 8 pounds and that really surprised me. Jankowski plays like a twig for sure and Wilson is a unleashed pit bull, haha

Yeah well I looked up Wilson's weight and saw 220 then laughed hard after. first search wiki said he weighed 196...yeah hasn't been updated in 6-7 years. |

A clean late hit, and he was penalized on the play. He got thrown in the box. No suspension. |

Agreed for 99% of the players in the league but Wilson has had too many of these to ignore. I suspect he may get one or two games but agree most players get none.

There is only on wussy here and I believe it could be you. Your missing the whole point of this debate as it has nothing to do with Jankowski but rather Wilson who has many run ins with the law. He is not far behind Matt Cooke who I am sure you all love. Anyway the Caps are a much better team with Wilson just playing hockey and keeping it clean, simply because the opposition has to be aware he is on the ice or else.

There's a reason most people want the dirtbag players on their teams because then they get to go by different rules too. Also a reason why most people don't like these players too because they can give, but they surely can't take.
You name the player people love to hate...
Wilson, Tkuchuk, Marchand, Cooke, Claude Lemiuex and on and on. The one common thing between them all, when it was returned back to them they all cried like little babies.
Now if the rules are the same to everyone then I am fine with it.

Well first off, it was not milliseconds off like you tried to paint the narrative in a prior comment.
Secondly, I don't play the weird liberal games where I need to answer an exact number to specify when a hit is late. According to the rulebook the hit would be late if the referee deems the hit as interference. I guess we have to go back to check if an interference call was made...
Thirdly, if you don't want a "subjective nonsense" answer, but want a simple one then that is answer is...did the player have controlled possession of the puck prior to the hit then the answer is a giant non-subjective NO. - Glak18
Before calling for a suspension on a late hit that is otherwise clean I would like to know the difference between Wilson's lateness and hundreds of uncalled forecheck hits where the D man moves the puck right before being hit. My guess is there would be plenty of examples where the difference is milliseconds. The bigger difference is that those D men brace themselves after they move the puck.
Oh and about the NHL rule on possession, the last player to touch the puck is considered the player in possession. The hit is legal if it follows "immediately" after loss of possession. When you don't call plenty of non-immediate hits, like I referenced, then the definition of immediate becomes blurred which imo necessitates this "weird liberal game" called measurement and quantification.
Finally, wtf are you on about saying specific numbers are weird liberal games? I'm here to discuss interference suspensions, not the culture war nonsense that has permanently rotted your brain.

I love how the person crying about suspending someone for a 2 minute interference is also going off on others for being weird liberal millennials. |

The sense I get these days is that players expect to not be hit. Every once in a while they get a reminder to look out. It was dirty because it was late, but he didn't target the head, just a big F U hit. I would be disheartened if that was suspension worthy. |

Predatory hit, the kind the league wants out of the game
it was very late....didn't make an effort to slow up
player was vulnerable.

The hit was about one second late. Here's a screen cap of the YouTube video at the exact moment when Jankowski swats the puck:
...and here's a cap of the video at the exact moment when Wilson hits Jankowski:
Only one second has elapsed on both the play clock and the Youtube video timer.
Yes, the hit was late, but not significantly. For most players, the penalty would have been sufficient discipline. For Wilson, he might get a fine. I don't think a suspension is warranted. |
