Don't forget Greene is going to hit those bonuses and thus adding at least another 1 mil to the cap next year and he won't even be on the team anymore - Vukota
Why do Greene's bonuses count against the cap next year if he is a UFA after this season? I thought just his $700K salary counted against cap. |

Regarding cap this summer... A lot Lou can do if he needs to make room..
this year you have Ladd on the taxi Squad. Next year you can move him to LTIR.
They can buy out Leo and/or Cal who only have one more year.
Sign either Pelech or Beau to bridge deals b/c u have a lot of cap coming off the following years and the cap should feasably start to rise.
If CaL is not bought out and is going to be hurt all the time I wouldn't be surprised to see him "Hang em" up Boychuk style and go to LTIR too.
If Sorokin is as good as we think he is going to be they can look to trade Varly too.
Matt Martin is making $1.5 mill.. he is on the 4th line and has 2 goals and 2 assists. He also has 68 hits and brings a lot to the team in terms of don't fck with our guys.
not sure how that is a bad sign...( He has more goals than Skinner and Hall.. lol).

They structured his contract to be a lot of performance based bonuses that were easily attained. it kept them under cap this year but those bonuses count against next year.

I'm about the biggest Sorokin boner-boy out there and I think that trading Varlamov this offseason would be a horrific idea. That's putting a lot of eggs in the Sorokin basket and no matter how good I think he's going to be...there's still a lot of risk there.
Especially because there is not one goaltender in the system ready to step into the NHL in a backup role. They'd have to go out and sign someone for probably $2M-$3M and then trading Varly really starts to not make any sense. |

The bonuses are added to the final cap hit for the year that was just concluded, and if that total including bonuses earned exceeds the salary cap, the excess is a bonus carryover overage that is a cap hit for the following year.

I never understood Cappy's rationale for that move. Lee, a guy who has never been much of a fighter, was the only guy to stand up for his teammate, Visnovski, and challenge Wilson for that hit that basically ended Vis' NHL career. So Cappy rewards him with a benching in favor of a career AHL-er???? |

Calgary is having a rough season. I'm sure Wildschein is very upset. |

Thanks for link. The way it reads to me is if we are over the cap with the bonuses, than the excess counts against next year. Not sure how many other players contracts are laced with bonuses, but that same site Puckpedia has us with 4,675,669 in cap space. So unless I am translating that incorrectly - which I may be - than there is some room to play with before we need to be worrying about the bonuses carrying over. I am sure there are more bonuses and it is likely that cap number is wrong. But, would be nice if it wasn't... |

Personally I don't trust any website about the cap that isn't CapFriendly.com....they're the site all the journalists use so I have to imagine they're the most reliable.
And the way it reads to you is absolutely right. The amount in which player bonuses + regular AAV exceed the cap in a given year gets deducted from the cap the following year, since that's the year in which the bonus is paid out.
So if the cap is $100 in year 1 and the Isles have $98 in payroll, but Wahlstrom scores 40g and hits a $5 bonus then Wahlstrom gets paid that $5 bonus in year 2 but the overage is $3, so the Isles cap ceiling for year 2 would be $97, not $100 |

WTF???
With about 25 minutes until warmups in Newark, #Isles official roster stands at 22 -- no Wahlstrom. Could mean Clutterbuck is back. Could mean the site isn't updating. But as of now, Wahlstrom not back from the taxi squad for tonight's game. |

Anyone know what channel the islanders broadcast is on optimum(actual number it says MS+2 and I have no idea what (frank)ing channel that is?). I don’t feel like listening to the (frank)ing man child Steve Cangilosi all night.
