I get it.
I was more or less just saying that most of these young high draft picks usually add to the puzzle. Very few change the complexion. I think Powers would be a nice piece but is not the missing piece.

I don't know much about him other than he's huge, he's sound defensively and producing offensively and his skating is pretty good. Which is extremely important.

**just by quickly reading a scouting report on him**

Victor Hedman, currently the best defenseman in the league, didn't get to 30+ points until his 5th season.
- Reubenkincade

i remember when he was labelled a bust and was fodder for trade rumours.

i think dahlin will be a true franchise #1d.

i'd trade hughes for him in a new york minute.

Canucks are in my head, I was thinking of scenario's on trading for Eichel last night while trying to fall asleep

I'd love to have Rasmus Dahlin, in fact, I'd trade Quinn Hughes for him straight up

I would to, but I doubt very much Buffalo would do that deal.

re: hedman

didn't TBL give ohlund that ridiculous contract because they wanted him to mentor hedman and get him to the next level?

seems like the whole mentoring thing can work... but just not for the canucks.

You never know, they need a culture change there. Regarding Eichel, I'd look at trading for Eichel with a trade centering around Horvat +++

To the best of my recollection, yes, that's why they wanted him. However, I think it's an overstated thing, mentoring. If you're talented enough to play at a high level you watch the guys around you who've been around awhile, they tend to play the right way if you have a good team.

Edit: young players need more mentoring off the ice than on it as being out on your own is a huge culture shock for young guys. Having to get proper rest, having to feed yourself properly, which is something simple but you'd be amazed at how much young guys have no clue how to do it or how important it is. Although I'm assuming it's much better these days.

Well, as much as it disturbs most of us, the Canucks are in a six year losing cycle and it doesn't appear to be getting any better, that said, I'm not wanting Jim Benning to be making any franchise altering deals.

Eichel wants to play in a large US market. It will never happen.

It's not up to him, but your right, a large US market is more to his liking I'm reading.

i was just playing around and i agree. team culture is more important than mentors though there is overlap between the two.

edit due to your edit: i was also going to mention the same thing but state that a mentor is most important when there is a cultural/language barrier for the youngster.

What is it about Eichel that you like? Is it how he makes his linemates/team better? Is it his leadership qualities? Is it his 3 million overpriced contract?
We already have a centre who is at least equivalent to Eichel's talent, need to fill other holes, as a priority.

Harman on Benning regarding any potential deals, nailed it.

"And maximizing the future value by monetizing the Canucks’ assets at this bizarro trade deadline will require creativity, dexterity and a proactive approach, a collection of terms that haven’t frequently been used in summarizing the Jim Benning era of Canucks hockey operations."
