It wasn’t worded as “retirement” but rather unable to continue due to injury. - 1970vintage

Ya, he is a terrible coach
https://www.statscrew.com...hockey/stats/c-sutteda01c - Reubenkincade
I never said he was terrible but has had his day. AV has a killer record too would you be happy if we brought him back here? Sure in the short term he may get some results in CGY but long-term based on the coaches that are currently available? Don't see it... |

When was the last time Sutter coached, Kings 2014ish?
I think Sutter will have a bit of a rude awakening now that the NHL is fully ruled by Zennials and Z’s with their “you have to ask nicely and I want to feel like I’m contributing”...

Just posted above what that team has on LTIR - bloatedmosquito
Saw that, Seabrook and Toews are 17 million of that, I expect Toews back next year though. |

Funny thing is the whiners wanted an extensive interviews this time and done properly and hire a coach with experience. This week look on the rolodex and see who is available.

Sutter is a short-term 'fix' for a long-term problem in CGY. That club has a lot of the same issues we have technically. But having said that they were willing to make the change mid season to give the club a boost so there is that. |

I am waiting for Canucks to retire (LTIR) Loui next year and then Bettman will put a recapture on the loophole

the funny/troubling thing (at least for me) re: luongo is that he and his family were/are reportedly friends with FA and his family.
so you would think that he undoubtedly told FA about the retirement prior to announcing it. that means either 1) FA didn't care about the cap recapture because it actually saves him real money; or 2) Lui did what was best for himself and wasn't too concerned about FA or the canucks.
i find 1) unlikely as FA has shown he'll spend money (within reasonable limits,) so i find 2) more likely: lui did what was best for himself.
the point i'm trying to make is: i don't get why people want the organization to honour that guy. best goalie the canucks ever had but he was about his canucks team winning, not the organization or city (if you can understand my meaning.) |

Mtl are 10 W and 12 losses and spent 102 Mil this year . That is why they fired the coach.
Cgy was another team who were buyers to a less extent ,I think Treliving is getting nervous. Daryll also was a GM |

I would assume there was some bad blood between Luongo and the Canucks organization, didn’t end well and quickly soured after the outdoor game under Tortorella. |

i agree. GMs who mismanage their cap should be nervous about being fired. |

I think there's different perceptions of mismanaging the cap. If you're referring to the Canucks, they're always compliant. |

Flames are built to win now, Sutter is probably a short term thing but a much needed kick in the ass for a quiet group in Calgary. |

that's why i put in the personal friendship between FA and RL.
there definitely was a bad ending but that stuff wouldn't have been on a personal level with the owner (at least imo.)

agreed. this was a message sent to the players.
and that implied message will be explicit in the next few weeks.
i wonder how this group would deal with a coach like that? i/we discussed hitchcock last week. how would creative types like EP and QH deal with strict systems coach? they definitely need it but would they accept it?
i'm not distilling it to the generational issue but there is some merit on the psychological makeup of the stars? unless you have buy in from the stars, sh!t could go sideways real quick with a hard a$$ coach. |

Aquilini (frank)ed Luongo, he allowed the mess to perpetuate itself. Luongo probably felt like Francesco brought in Tortorella so he was just as much at fault....who knows.
At the end of the day Luongo obviously didn’t give flying f**k about the recapture as he wasn’t injured he just didn’t want to play anymore. |
