I’m very excited to see who wins in a fight between a old man and a whimpering pot head. I just hope neither of them drive. |

It's fine to criticize players but it's the crucifying that gets me. Expectations in here are completely unrealistic, so when they're not met, the knee jerk, grass is greener crowd start marching with pitch forks. Quinn, for example, is 21!! He's already one of the most offensively gifted Dmen in the league - does he have to work on his defence? YES of course. Should he be traded? FAWK NO. Patience. - Brooks_Light
I mean, unless you’re trading him for Dahlin (Dahlen?).
I agree. I like to complain about players, coaches, managers, posters. But as a “Brendan Gaunce is a fine 4th liner” you can surmise my expectations are relatively low...
There was a sequence last night where I was watching Jay Beagle and wondering what the (frank) he was doing. But you know, he was probably actually doing his job, even if he never actually did anything. |

I'm good with the win, just not with some of the teams decisions.

It is never a one on one battle they always have to gang up. You should know . They have done it to you often enough.

lol exactly. Which is why the Hughes for Dahlin thing is asinine. In time he will get his defensive game in order. - LordHumungous
lol. anyway.
the point being made is that you guys are being blinded (to an extent) by the points. we know he is an exceptional offensive talent. he needs to be better defensively. while it's great to give him the leeway to create, he also needs to learn discipline.
this is where good coaching comes in to play. he is young and needs time to develop his game.
is he best served given top line minutes right away and sink or swim? or perhaps shelter his minutes a little bit and give his game a little more structure.
he's barely into his career right now. the good and bad habits he develops right now will be harder to break. we know he's got the offense. some of us don't think that defense just naturally develops. mike fcuking green. |

I’m all for criticizing anyone and everyone, but... I will help you with one distinction. When a particular player is brought in to accomplish a particular task and they end up being terrible at that thing they are supposed to be good at, then the criticism falls harder on them.
The fan base is unified on hating Lui because he was a 30g scorer who might not have 30 in five seasons, let alone one.
Hughes has never been “good at defending”, so my expectations of his defensive prowess are relatively low. But you can’t argue that his offensive instincts are excellent, as he leads the league in scoring from the back end. - 1970vintage
All fair points.
I don't think we should overlook defensive deficiencies, though and Hughes has been on record, stating that his defense is pretty good.
I posted a quote from him a few pages back, where he obviously has no idea how to defend a 3 on 2.
It was a quote straight out of the Province and not the 1st time he has stated that his defending is good.
So, my issue is the kid thinks he is playing good defensively, now, that is either on him, or the coaching.
I will give the kid credit, after his poorly timed pick last night, he played much better defensively and was much better at choosing when and when not to be aggressive offensively.
It is about owning up to your mistakes.

Maybe that's why you can't tell the dmen apart anymore? As they are making 6 mil each and it's blinding you mentally?

Nope, for the record I wouldn't trade Hughes for Dahlin - both are incredible players. BUT I don't think Dahlin will ever reach the offensive gifts Quinn has. And I think defensively QH will continue to improve to the point that he's more responsible, smarter and solid in his own end. |

But the argument could be made that D is a better D than H, so it’s not like we’re talking Hall for Larson. Anyway, it is what it is, just need to power through, 3 years away from being 3 years away and all that. |

I think Dahlin will have more of an impact on the overall game once he grows (Hedmen type), whereas Quinn will be an offensive juggernaut that is capable in his own end. Both are fantastic players, both fill certain needs.
I would trade QH for Dahlin in a package deal that had Eichel coming back too. But only if it was a lopsided, "What was Buffalo thinking?" kind of deal. |

I’m not letting him off the hook, there isn’t a player on the roster who couldn’t be doing a better job. |
