I think what Benning said is that the core players of some of the other teams are more mature seemed a bit true. Hughes is still very young for a defender. Nurse and Reilly are both 26. Both Edmonton and Toronto have legit superstars that are more mature than Petey. Petey is going to have to add size and speed if he wants to compete with the big boys in all facets of the game nightly.

I like Van's future much more then their's though. That's thanks to drafting and developing.

Isn’t that what Beagle, and Rousel, and Schaller, and Gagner, and Sutter, and and Myers and Benn and and and are here for?

Doesn't work that way.

You can't take your age and give it to someone else.

Thanks to Benning's presser's today, I think the team should extend Green for two years or fire him tomorrow. I just don't know of a legit replacement that would be better than Green is. He's not a bad coach, he's just not growing as fast as we would like him too. His teams are finding ways to lose games, he's got to make them find ways to win the close ones. I'm not sure a new voice in the room would help that right now unless it was an Asst coach to which (frank) no, none of them are better than Green.

I have my opinion of Green but it won't do any good. Sounds like Benning likes him and thinks he can do the job so not much that any one can do.

I would go with, inexperienced coach and inexperienced star players. The vets can only give so much to advice to the better players, they can't do the things for them.

Possibly the talent isn't there yet for Green's systems. Seen a squad that achieved max potential in the playoffs last season to one that at the start of the season was about as bad as they could play. Juror's still not out what the team is capable of on a regular basis for me.

Yeah, don't really matter what we say. It just sucks that Green's contract is at a time that things are the way they are. If things were more clear and the team was in a more definite place, I think it would be easier to make a decision.

I honestly was not surprised by one thing today at the presser. Old contracts are expiring and prospects are ready. Believes in his coach and has a good relationship with ownership.

You can pretty well guess what is going to happen in the next year and a half.

Is it the player’s responsibility to conform to the coaches system, or is it the coach’s responsibility to develop a system that suits the skill set of the players he has?

Stick to the process.

For the people that have always said "Benning has no plan", just aren't really paying attention. Or they just think that their own "plans" are better.

Benning certainly has made some mistakes over the time and has worked to do still. I think creating clarity within the organization right now would help. Sign Green to an extension or fire him. Trade Pearson and some others. Figure out the defence has got to be the biggest off-season thing for him to do. Too many lefties and not enough righties.

Ya agree Benning isn't perfect as is no GM...and yes clarity is a good terminology and would help huge. I honestly thought Green would get the extension after the PO run last year but obviously ownership and MNGT must have been off on this. Extend him or move on is the play but do it now or wait until the off season? As we approach TDL Pearson and Sutter should have some value for teams looking to add. Then move on.

We have Hughes and Schmidt now to build around moving forward and if that future doesn't include Edler, Myers or Benn so be it. Hamonic is a good utilty guy to keep around and can play tough hockey. Wpg built around Pionk and Morrisey we can for sure start building the D around Hughes and Schmidt. Hughes being a first pairing guy and Schmidt being the second pairing guy of course.
