Alex Edler will reach 900 games tonight, joining the Sedins and Trevor Linden as the only other players to achieve this for the Canucks

He won’t waive no matter how pleasantly Jim asks.

The fact that this idiot doesn't realize that Pearson needs to be signed or traded by TDL shows he should not be writing at all. EP and QH can wait until after because they are RFA. Pearson is UFA and if JB waits until after TDL to try and sign him, then doesn't he looks even more like a fool than he does already.

Basically Pearson is more important to try and sign before TDL in order to make a decision on him going forward.

- Retinalz

Ya, that's a stupid part of the article. Pearson, IMO, should be traded. He doesn't fit the window, and he could get back a decent asset. I think he's a good player, and great with Bo, but long-term I just don't see it as a fit.

When did I say anything about wanting him to sign anyone in free agency?

His signings speak for themselves, why let him make more mistakes?

- VanHockeyGuy

I think you need to go take a look at who he has drafted in the last 6 years (at every name) and study that list.

He has late round picks like Aiden McDonough who is playing in NCAA player of the month (drafted 7 th round)

Costmar playing meaningful minutes late in the game at the world Jrs .

Follow the overseas prospects and see how they are overachieving and standing out.

No one has drafted in Canucks history like this guy. In a year where they are not going free agent hunting and need strong drafting it is typical that the fans want to fire the best guy for the job.

I really think you need to read Brooks_Light report on the Comets of who is ready and who is right there.

You can also chose to be angry like Beavis that the Canucks trade a second for Linden Vey and another for Baertschi. Your choice.

I don’t think you understand what he was saying. I’ll explain it for you:

The reason why signing Pettersson, Hughes and Demk first is so important is because it sets the stage for everything else you can do. If you have your core 6 players locked in you then can comprehend how much $/term you can afford for your peripheral players.

If you do it the other way around you might “run out of time”.

Benning said yesterday "Alex has been a dedicated Canuck and he has the choice. He mentioned the full NMC . He said it's his choice"

Jim just needs to say “Hey Alex, we won’t be bringing you back next year, so if you want to end it like this that’s fine, but you’re going to have to move next year if you want to keep playing. So if you’re open to it, I can move you somewhere you might be interested in playing, with a chance to win a Stanley Cup. Or not, your choice”.

Yeah, but if he’s waiting for Alex Edler to come into his office and ask for a change he’s going to be waiting a long time.

No doubt JB has done a fantastic job drafting.

It's his other duties which make him look bad.

JB is not a good GM.

He needs a Hockey Op's guy not named Francesco Aquilini.

I'd be okay if he stayed, just not driving the bus.

That might work! Very pleasantly worded. I like the "it's your choice" part, it should really make Edler feel like he has ownership of his final destination.

Jim would probably be an excellent Director of Amateur Scouting. His greatest strength seems to have been reorganizing the department and giving them direction. I think, generally speaking, NHL teams scouting staffs are interchangeable, it’s the direction they get from up top on how to go about their business.

His other duties have included building a really strong farm system and developing players. Utica is now one of the top AHL teams.

He has built a really strong scouting department.

He has the framework now that they can mostly avoid Free Agent signings by replacing expiring contracts with developed prospects.

His last couple of trades have been Schmidt for a third
Miller for a first and third.
Toffoli for a second and prospect
Motte
Leivo

That’s what I’m saying. If you don’t plan on bringing him back, then be proactive. If you plan on bringing him back, then sign him. Problem is, there might not be enough money for that.

I can easily see the D being the same next year . Benn back for one more at 1 mil.
Hamonic back for one more at 1.5 . Edler back on a one year 3 mil.

I think Benn and Juolevi will share the spot next year.

I've been following this team for over 50 years, there have been some good times, but mostly bad, along with lots of bad luck along the way. I'm entitled to be frustrated with this team.

Giving JB a decade to produce results (20% of the teams existence) is stupid IMO, especially when he professed he could turn the team around quickly.

Give that some thought, you and I are running out of time.

While the things that Gillis added for the cup run were fantastic (and prior)he did handcuff the club for almost a decade with 9-10 NTC's and arguably the worst drafting in club history. It was a bit of a mess lol...

Sure maybe FA brought in a GM that 'didnt want to rebuild' but doesn't chnage the fact Gillis left a bit of sh!t storm behind like most GMs do on their way out.

- LordHumungous

But he (Gillis) didn't, he left the organization with next to nothing for prospects because they were competing for a Cup but that hardly means Jim Benning had nothing to work with...that is complete and utter nonsense.

As I mentioned, Benning had tons of cap space with which he used to stay competitive signing Miller and Vrbata. He also had good draft picks by trading a few players but he wasted them on guys who turned out to be nothing.

If another GM was to take over next year he'd have Podkolzin, Lind, Woo and Gadjovich as prospects, which is very Mike Gillis level.

Bang on about running out of time.

I think his statement from yesterday about two more years is blown out of proportion.

Lets face it the start of this year was a disaster. The last 8 games have been entertaining and I am hoping the rest of the year falls into place that they play well. Enjoy the games one at a time.

Next year they will see more improvement They are not falling off a cliff waiting for Loui and Lous recapture to expire, it is just going to take time until Podz Hogs Rathbone Lind start feeling comfortable being NHL players.

Some of they young guys are here and there is more coming on the way and that takes time but the change has already started.
