“Hard work beats talent until talent works hard” and up until now Tre’s done a great job of acquiring talent/retaining it at a bargain but that talent just hasn’t seemed to want to work hard. Behind sutter this team could very well go down in flames but he’s also got to be one of the better options for pushing his players and establishing work ethic. This is about as close to a Hail Mary as this team can get cause if we went with some other soft “yes man” we would be committing to the same mediocrity we were in in the late 2000’s and that we are stuck in now.

I’m not saying I don’t think we should get a new set of eyes on this as we’ve been plateauing for a few years now but can anyone here name me one available option with a better track record? If not I’d rather keep Tre than bring someone in that will make this team even worse. Sure he hasn’t been the best but considering this team has actually selected in the top 10 only 3 times in the past decade and we have the talent that we do makes me laugh that people consider him among the worst in the league. It’s not like the lindholm, andersson, and Gaudreau contracts aren’t some of the best in the league and somehow we won both Hamilton trades. Just look to Vancouver and be thankful we aren’t stuck in a nightmare like that. For every Tre there’s a hundred feasters

Encouraged by what's going on with Stockton (Rizicka especially) and cant help but wonder if his development may not make Mony expendable to bring in RW help?

It's kind of gross how everyone, myself included, has already forgotten about the allegations made against Sutter a couple of years ago. If he was actively coaching when the allegations were made, everyone would still hate him.

Carcillo didn't forget.

Darryl is a bad human being. I believe that from all of my interactions with him and from what I saw him do to teammates. He didn't get rehabilitated. I definitely know that Darryl didn't step away and get rehabilitated in any way, shape or form. And now he's stepping back. And that's ... how hockey culture works. They stand by these guys that they hold in high regard despite their behavior. That's the epitome of the problem.

Was a 62-year-old cattle farmer with abuse allegations really the best option? Especially for a team that forced a coach to resign over abuse allegations just over a year ago.

Give it a rest...you’re probably on the wagon of Disney getting rid of Peter Pan, dumbo and lady and the tramp too. So sick of this b!tch and whine society were creating...I’m sure all bases were covered. What were the allegations anyways? Who’s feelings did he hurt?

He played C in junior and has been playing C between zary and Phillips to start the year. I would like to see them both flank Ryan on the 4th line at some point this year if they bring them in but I believe that with a lack of strong C prospects and an abundance of LW it would likely be in the flames best interest to keep him at C

Carcillo probably thinks sutter’s a Richard which is fair enough, lots of people I’ve met that I don’t like. But if the allegations had any merit he probably would have tweeted something about the hiring especially considering he’s already brought it up there’s nothing to lose by doing it again now.

I think you are bang on here. Sutter's record is second to none right now. He has the hardware to prove it, and ironically the best coach we hired since we hired...er...him?

I agree that Treliving has mostly done well in managing our club. He's carved out some good acquisitions in all areas, not perfect but a lot better than a good chunk of guys running teams. I know I have personally called for his head to be chopped, but after bringing Darryl back, I think he deserves some credit. He's never afraid to make bold moves.

I think we as fans sometimes forget how challenging it is to build a winner, especially now that Covid-19 has turned everything upside-down. I can't even fathom the unpredictable effects it has had on everything from the market itself to how players are performing. All that being said, it will be interesting to see how the team reacts to their new coach and pretty cool to see him behind our bench once again.

Listed on the Heat website as a C, currently playing C, played C in the OHL.

I suspect Sutter was chosen for a few significant reasons.

1. Availability: He is available and willing to take the job.
2. Chemistry: He is capable of augmenting team chemistry. Poor leadership candidates likely wont be respected as leaders by Sutter.
3. Disciple: This flames squad has developed a reputation among officials as a bunch of delinquent whiners. Sutter will not approve of the nonsense. This team needs a tough, demanding coach.
4. Structure: I have no clue what system the Flames playing under Ward. I am confident this will not be the case under Sutter. Structured play will be demanded.
5 Respect: Sutter has won two cups and will demand the respect he is deserved.

While Sutter is far from the best coach, he is the type of coach needed by a team like the Flames. He accepted a tough job, is familiar with the team, will demand discipline, structure and accountability. If the Flames find traction and make the playoffs, Habs players, while shining their golf clubs early, will reflect on the promotion of Ducharme and wish they had played for Sutter instead.

You must be a Habs fan or very delicate to be so offended by my comment. You seem as fragile as the Flames roster had become under Ward's failed tuelage.

I suppose some may prefer watching loosing hockey, where the roster plays like dandies while being mocked by opponents and dismissed by officials, with the only response being continued players only female dog-fest. I do not approve.

I suppose I must remember how soft some of the younger fans have become. As such, I apologize sweet princess, I did not mean to insult your bubble-wrapped sensibilities.
