Right? Remember that trunkload of cash that helped liberate some Russian players? How many of those would it take....

I think Eichel will be reserved for the off-season when there are more teams able to bid for him. I think Eichel will be too expensive for the Wings...and they would want a high quality center or center prospect back in return.....that is where LA would have a distinct advantage with all the centers they have in their system.
I find it interesting that the Hawks now have $24M in LTIR , they could definitely make a big splash NOW and possibly have Toews and Dach back for the play-offs!
As for the Wings, Taking on KO might be a possibility if a quality player comes with him, like Dahlin or Reinhart....Mantha might be a candidate to make that trade happen. Dahlin +KO(retain$1M) for Mantha and 2 2021 2nds?????
Skinner(retain 2M) + 1st for Mantha......not really a fan of this one though
Hall would not be a fit here unless a extension is negotiated first....but the Wings are not ready for an expensive player as Taylor Hall will be....$9-10MAAV

I feel like Buffalo tried to rush things and that Skinner contract, woof. Ownership had been too willing to spend (not usually an issue). The patience it takes is brutal. Buffalo has hungry fans. They love hockey. Just some bad decisions made

Here's a fresh take! No NHL team should deal with the Sabres until current ownership Is gone.

CBJ's lost again tonight. Makes one think that Laine may soon be in play....unless they get a quality center RIGHT NOW and try to salvage their season.
I did not like their trading Anderson for Domi, now they should trade Domi for a real center.
Maybe they make a deal for Eric Staal to try to salvage the season????

the wings need a #1C, a #1D, and a #1G

the sabres have two of those, Dahlin and Eichel. and they arent easy to get either. the price to get either of them would be astronomical. more then the wings can afford right now.

you cant trade your way out of the problem the wings have. they have to draft and develop.

if the wings were contending u might go out and trade for a eric staal for your bottom six/playoff depth. the wings need to move players for what they can get- Ryan, Filpula, Staal, etc.

First things is to move as much as you can at TDL, load up the development team start fresh. Stevie still looks like he’s headed in the right direction.
The Coach is hopeless, hopefully he will exhaust his contract and sail away.
Eichel may not be the answer, not sure if he’s a real leader? He may be a overly cerebral for the locker room, remember all the problems Hamilton had.

I hate this excuse we are in a rebuild. No team should be this bad this long this is a case of bad coaching and when the coach is still here it means bad management. I remember when a Detroit team was so bad that they were almost as bad as now . People then also used lots of excuses but then hired Jacque Demers who said no team should be this bad made ,a few changes ,went from worst to semi finalist . There are many examples of teams that go from worst to respectable fast with the right coach. Now that we are in the years of a salary cap and every team pretty much looks the same for Detroit to be this bad goes beyond the players to something else.

Lots of valid and insightful thoughts above.

Making a move for a single, high-value/cost player doesn’t pass the smell test. If we were back in the Babcock-eara; YES. We needed 1 player to push us over the edge. Now? There’s no amount of $$ on hand that can buy what we need (as above; #1G, C, & D). The only way to rebuild talent is draft, trade smartly, and develop. Development hinges upon coaching.

We need a coach that can properly lead and mentor young players. Blash isn’t the guy and I don’t think anyone here would argue that point. Lambert & a complete flush of the coaching staff is a MUST (from video coach to Bylsma...). Add that to a crop of young, talented players (being serious here; we have a VERY strong group of youngsters that will thrive under the proper coaching staff). Until the staff changes, nothing will change. Full stop.

Stay away from high $$ trades/signings. The cost of a trade would be too damn high and drain talent that’s brewing and will contribute to SCPO teams.

If Detroit were the only team with this type of output, I’d agree. But, since Demers took over we have a salary cap and coaching has become cookie cutter. Goalies have become sumo sized. Teams that have made the moves and acquired the talent Detroit wants to get are right there at the bottom. Detroit was one of the reasons the cap came into existence. The cap, ironically, is the reason the team fell off so hard. Detroit gave away first round picks as recently as, well, Vasilevsky. That pick would have made a difference for sure. It stinks, but this isn’t the same world. In fact, this year, Detroit faces only 7 total teams. 2 of which where in the cup finals. There’s not a team in this division we can be truly competitive with in this setup.Yzerman will have turned almost the entire roster over after next season. That’s a huge change. No stability. Oh, and Detroit had almost 10 months off of playing hockey. This stinks, but it’s not the same world where a coach could turn this around. Yzerman is dumping contracts the old fashioned way (except for Abby) and there is a huge spending freeze. The league will be over 3 billion in debt after this season. All of this is unique to the time. Remember, I said this was like the era pre original 6. 8 teams closed their doors in that time, getting to those 6 teams. The league wants to float everyone, but it’s not working. Hockey ops is a liability right now and only about half the franchises can fund the teams without defaulting

Quick hit and poll. Guys, if you saw today Wilson got a 7 game suspension for his hit on Carlo the other night. I was watching the game. It wasn’t suspension worthy. Not only that, but here’s a tidbit form ESPN “ The scribe notes that the Department of Player Safety initially looked at the hit as a check-to-the-head incident, but decided that a boarding penalty had a better chance of earning a suspension. Even though the league has been shortened to 56 games, Wyshynski pointed out that the suspension was not pro-rated.”

Read carefully, the department “redefined” the hit has boarding to get a lengthy suspension. It wasn’t boarding. Compare this to the Gudas hit on Glendening, and it’s not even close. Parros literally jacked up false charges to appease the outcry against Wilson. That should piss off the NHLPA, and should be challenged. It’s absolute insanity to blatantly charge a player with the wrong penalty to try and get a suspension out of it.

My question to you all, is this worth pursuing? I’ve wanted to do a post on this for the past couple days, before the suspension. The “outrage” over this hit compared to the silence of the Gudas hit (Gudas and Parros are friends, clearly Wilson doesn’t benefit from this). The reason it’s a big deal to me, we want to believe there is some sort of true standard that keeps the league from being corrupted. The draft, the awarding of franchises, the disbersment of funds, monitoring gambling, all of it. This flies in the face of all that, and makes it clear that a department can be swayed based on God knows what.

If I run with a post, I could end up in doggie doo. I’ll try to contact DPS again, but they’ve ignored everything. They even muted me on Twitter to keep tweets regarding Gudas from being read. What would you do?

It's likened to fighting the government these days. If all the press is one way, that is the way it will go. The media has all the power.
As for Wilson, yeah he should have gotten a couple of games, but so should have Gudas. But the Gudas hit wasn't on national TV, either. It is all about how the media sees it.

The reason it bothers me is that they changed the offense. He’s been suspended for boarding, but didn’t board a player. Detroit is a bottom feeder, so there’s not much coverage. Gudas, for sure, should have been out. But to jack up a false charge to appease the masses is insane. I’m a Bruins fan (don’t boo me). Marchand is a dirty player, so the outrage from Jack on the broadcast felt hypocritical to being with. This is a department going way off the rails. That’s really messed up

It was a hit to the head, but not primarily, and to a player in a defenseless or vulnerable position.

I’ve watched all the replays, (and saw it live). Wilson goes into the body, Carlo chicken wings him, you see Wilson’s head go back (actually got cut from the elbow) and his hit, subsequently went higher. Most of the head contact was against the glass. It certainly wasn’t boarding. Carlo could easily have been fined for the elbow. I’m not a fan of Wilson, and I like the Bruins. But turning that hit into a 7 game suspension by redefining it as boarding is farcical. Glendening was defenseless, the head was the primary target, it was a complete blindside hit. Carlo raised his elbow to defend (was aware the hit was coming). They used to let guys lift their sticks and give someone a but to the chin if they hit them in the corner. New rules have it banned

Update - Bertuzzi still isn’t available to practice. He’s been out since January 30. Larkin may be available Tuesday.

I’m really concerned about this Bertuzzi injury. When it goes this long, they’re usually trying to rehab vs surgery. It could be concussion, but this seems like something else. He’s as much the heart of this team as Larkin in many ways. I really miss that kid

I wouldn’t say defenseless. Sure he was engaged with another player but not defenseless. The result of his head bouncing off the glass was unfortunate but it wasn’t inherently a bad hit. I’m with Jeremy with the suspension being for boarding just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. Time to break out the ole DoPS wheel of justice.

Yzerman I'm sure has a clear rebuilding plan to turn around the Red Wings and he doesn't necessarily need to deal with Buffalo to get there.

Years ago there was a legitimately interactive one. It was hysterical and sad at the same time. There was even a toggle for playoff mode.

Yeah just give him time and he will hit one of those Drouin for Sergachev type deals or a rental for Cernak type moves. Knowing you have the right person in charge makes being patient so much easier.
