I find it impossible to believe in the Leafs.
You never know which Matthews-Marner you are going to get and Ander5en is not even a question for me. He is a problem. - Aetherial
I think that is unfair to Matthews-Marner. They've been terrific. Are people sharting all over McDavid and Drysaddle b/c we shut them down for 3 games? As for our goaltending, Andersen will be on a short leash. Campbell has been really good, and will get the nod if needed. I like our team; no team wins every game. |

No, because we were all declaring this team to be the greatest hockey team ever assembled. The Oilers had no chance.
Then we lost two to Vancouver, and we are the worst team ever, and won't make the playoffs. |

So are you an advocate for Dubas declaring a "re-tool on the fly" because these guys are inconsistent? Like moving 2 of Nylander, Matthews, Marner? Letting Rielly walk?

Red Wings made Lankinen look like Hasek. But they make pretty much every goalie they face look like Hasek. |

Agreed. Ath is really hard on Leafs players.
Those two have both been tops in the league in terms of consistency this season. AM's wrist injury seems to be slowing him down a but. |

No, we (as in the Royal House of CC we) are declaring them to be the best team in a weak division that gets them a good shot to the semifinals.

The goaltending has been, in general, above average. Did Freddie get out-tended on Saturday? It happens and it sucks. It would also help the Leafs to have a healthy Matthews or learn to diversify their attack. Today that's Hyman. A healthy Simmonds may help, but they need more guys willing to pay those prices when they can't rely on the skill guys solely to get the job done.
The Leafs have a .954 5v5 Save Percentage. That's pretty impressive. League average is .940, so they are tied for first with Tampa. Campbell has a .970, Hutch has a .957 and Freddie has a .950.
Now, the defense is still allowing too many shots; we average about 40 shots at 5v5 / 60, and the league average is 39.3; we still allow more medium and high danger shots than the average as well (Medium Danger: League: 7.1, Leafs 9.0; High Danger: League 1.8, Leafs 2.1).
I don't have last year's numbers handy, but this is still an incredible and vast improvement over last year.
It's also notable that the Leafs can be better. When Hutchinson is in net, the Leafs allow 7.9 Medium Danger chances and 0.8 High Danger chances - so they can play tighter when they want to. |

I cannot possibly answer this given the current standings.
Anything I say, you will simply show how great they have been so far, so why bother.
I am clearly not debating the standings. I am stating that I cannot believe in this Leafs team. There is some pretty long and crystal clear history why not.

Definitely their Achilles heel but they have a very strong tender that certainly helps. - mjones242
On this one page I have seen you call "HELLY" money, elite and strong.
I actually think he is a great goalie as well.
But....
Andersen has a lower GAA than he does.
Andersen has not allowed a goal from centre ice this year - HELLY has.
Andersen cost 5 M and Helly 6.16 this year.
So if Helly is this good what does that make our favourite red headed step child?
I'm fine with what we have, once Campbell heals up we have a nice option if our starter falters - we haven't had that in a long while.
Unrelated note but is anyone concerned with how often / easily Campbell seems to get injured or re-injured? I wonder if he rushes back from injury too quickly and someone on the Leafs staff need to tell him they need him to rest up, heal up to 100% before coming back. We simply can't afford to have both him and Andersen hurt at the same time again, it's bad for the mental and physical health of us Leaf Fans!

Let's look at where they stand the last 4 years in overall playoff scoring. You can do ppg if you want.
Remember... we are talking about playoffs.
I keep hearing how great they are I suspect that PPG wise, playoffs, they are not all that great.

tied for 23rd in Sv% among goalies with more than 9 games played. This is right about where he looks to me, bottom 3rd of the league starters/1/1A
Yes, agreed about Campbell, and pissed off about Matthews. They had a comfortable lead and he looks off. I don't want to hear that he is still dealing with the injury. Let him heal FFS. This team is done if he isn't 100% |

Must suck to be a fan and have no belief in your team, the eternal pessimistic view has one advantage I suppose - anything other than complete failure in the worst way possible can be viewed as a 'nice surprise'? |

Based upon the junkmail I received from the Leafs this morning, we will be wearing the putrid reverse-wretched jerseys tonight.
Which are 25% off today, by the way. - Atomic Wedgie
When they take the other 75% off and add a 25% money back coupon I'll THINK about it....god those jerseys are |
