thats not just a Leafs thing, every team has plenty of iffy wins.
if you are only watching Leafs games, and been a leaf fan for 40 years...sure I get it.
every fan of every team will say the same thing as you. - senstroll

Oh FFS. That's you're argument? Our regular season record makes us Cup favourites? - mjones242
No, our regular season record gives us a very good shot at the semifinals. I’m open to arguments as to who in the Division is better. Note - I’m saying we have a very good shot at getting to the semis. From there anything is possible. Who knows who comes out of the other divisions. Who knows what upsets or injuries happen along the way and who knows what happens if this team does get on a roll.
Given the nature of the playoff structure (we’re playing the teams we ran up this unrealistic regular season record against) and given the way the team has won (not a bunch of 6-5 wins but the lowest GA in the Division) I don’t see how you can discount their chances of coming out of the Division.
Obviously, anything can happen and they can fold again. If that happens then it’s clear there are fundamental flaws in the character of the key players on the team and a major redo s in order. If they go on a 6 or 7 game losing streak I’ll get a big lump in my throat (throat) as well. Until that happens, there’s nothing in the season so far to suggest that anyone is as good and they’re not the FAVOURITES to win the division. |

Money Puck had them as favourites when I looked yesterday. The Athletic had TBL at 22% and the Leafs second at 19%. That was yesterday. |

I was just saying 40 years as a guesstimate range for how long people on here have been watching the Leafs
some will be more
some will be less

The leafs lost 2 in a row the vancouver. We need to revisit expectations...
will they be in the league next year or will they be the first team relegated to the AHL? |

People seem to have this idea that a team has to be "perfect" to go for it. Sometimes you just have to go.
Man, look at St. Louis when they won. They did not have a great start. I can guarantee the fan base was saying blow it up. I bet fans were even considering they would eventually slow down.
To be honest, they have only been a decent team since. Same as Washington. Nobody really expected them to win that year. They were not a regular season juggernaut.

This was after Vancouver. I think the main driver in setting the odds is the difficulty most of the other teams have in getting to the last 4. Colorado was listed at I think 9% not because they’re considerably worse than the Leafs but because of who they have to get through.
If they reset the odds of the last 4 it would be very different IMO. Key point though is that Leafs, even after Canucks are still big favourites to win the Division. Anybody see another team emerge?
I’m sticking to my Wedgie prediction that Leafs are first team to clinch |

Oilers are going "nuclear" by putting McDavid and Draisaitl together on the top line again. Very much a feast or famine type of team over there.

It’s my argument to your statement that “This team has been frequently outplayed and outworked this season by much lesser skilled teams.”
