How come you never in Canuck thread? I know it’s cool to be a Canuck fan but are you really a closeted lead fan in disguise? Or maybe this is your Alt account to protect you from the shame of posting in a leaf thread? - bloatedmosquito

Well said, in the interest of compartmentalization, the term trailer-trash-troll (TTT) may be appropriate.

Man I can say this about any team.
How about, "leafs are a hot Andersen and steady powerplay away from the semi finals" - Aaron_85
Because we have yet to see either of these things from the Leafs in the playoffs.

Go-time for this core is now. What's the point of holding back?
You can debate what they need to add/fix next month but no way does Dubas take a passive approach.
If you've concluded that heartache is coming and this group is perpetually flawed then argue to trade them all and re-build. |

If they're not going to go for it with the best record they've had in a hundred years, when would they? |

Define "go-time". Those are cool words and all but how far do you go this year to try to put the team over-the-top?
Give me some names. Which roster players (Kerfoot?) leave to make room for salaries coming back? Which prospects or picks do you dangle? (1sts? Sandin? Robertson?) |

Next week.
But then the week after it'll be too soon.
But then the week after that it'll be time again.

The trade deadline is so far into the season that the Cap is not nearly as big an issue as some might assume. Go to Cap friendly they have a tool. A couple of weeks ago ..only for poops n giggles (more cool words) I played out a Getzlaf for Engvall trade. It works fine with them eating 1/2.
In terms of what they might do I think they might add a middle 6 fwd with some grit and finish and maybe some depth for the taxi squad.
Realistically the D is what it is and things are pretty good. We're rolling with the 'tenders unless something falls into their laps. Another piece up front ...maybe a winger or a 3C with some experience ...makes the most sense.
Also - most of speculation has been that prices will be lower than usual this year. Teams still want to manage $$ and fewer teams will be ready to take on $$. |

How does it work out fine with Getzlaf for Engvall? Even if ANA eat 50% of his salary the Leafs are still on the hook for something like 600k, no? So which roster player has to be moved in addition to 🦒?
Also, the Leafs probably won't want to wait until the last day of the TDL to make a move for someone on an American club as it would severely limit their time in TO (COVID protocol bs).
Also, also... wtf do the Leafs have to give up to make ANA eat 50%? I mean, I get it: it's an example of what could happen. But I dunno, I would be shocked if there was something brewing of that magnitude.
Dubas already doesn't like pure rental types and to make something like Getzlaf happen would be a pretty tough pill to swallow.... unless they won the Cup, of course. |

The original comment was about being "really close" and how it was worth it to "go for it this year" not about making the semi-(frank)ing-finals, bruv. - mjones242
So being one of the last 4 doesn’t count as being very close? The point is that anything can happen from there sweet-thighs and you have no idea who the other 3 are going to be.
Also when did discussions on HB become linear? |

Bertuzzi has been injured for awhile now and no one really knows what's wrong with him. The Red Wings aren't saying anything other than he's "week to week with an upper body injury." I'm thinking it might be a concussion. |

Everyone was saying how Dubas has to make moves because the window was now in the off season.
Dubas makes moves. Now people are saying "18 - 6 - 2 is FINE and all but like, come on they haven't even won a stanley cup yet! We can't call them contenders!"
Dubas can only do so much. He can't make endless moves. it feels like some fans think any price for a new goalie is worth it and that isn't the case. We don't even know which goalies are really on the market and if they are better than Andersen. |

Let's just say that I think the Leafs should follow Tampa's model by beefing up and becoming "tougher" to play against that. Until they do that I'll be my cautiously pessimistic self.
Also, it's a lot more fun debating what I really said rather than non-sequiturs. |

It is true that Dubas has stayed away from rentals in all non Covid-Cap-flattened seasons so far.

If that's what you believe then okay, fair point. Do you have a Goodrow, Maroon, coleman type available other than Bennett and maybe Granlund? (Unless its Forsberg or a Dman i personally don't want anyone from nashville)

But isn't that why Dubas signed Simmonds and Bogosian? To be tougher to play against? |
