There was an article on the Athletic the other day (ya, I know) talking about resigning Pearson based off similar players and their signings/drop offs at the same age. Lots of graphs. Basically, resigning him now is a mistake based on what it'll take versus what you'll be able to get back for him. There are a few FAs that will be available this summer if the Canucks don't think Podkolzin is ready for top 6 minutes, that won't cost as much as Pearson likely will that can fill in for the next year or two.
Basically, like last year, there's going to be a squeeze on that middle of the pack UFA market and the Canucks could replace Pearson via that route if they're not completely sold on Podk. - NewYorkNuck
I will start by saying Dayal is an idiot.
Do you really need graphs to tell you how Pearson is playing ( not aimed at you). Dayal has no idea of what kind of talks are going on, money or term.
Dayal to me is like taking advice from a sports bettor. They will gladly give you info and take your money and throw facts and figures about , but they are mostly wrong most of the time.

I mean, you can think what you want, but just because you don't like someone doesn't mean they're wrong or don't bring up valid points.
They pour a lot into analytics and have their thoughts and reasons behind it. It's not saying Pearson is a bad player – the opposite, actually – but if you're giving him a longer contract it's going to come back and hurt the team in the long run. Short term pain, long term gain |

I'm not in favour of re-signing him. Benning is an idiot, he should be looking to trade Pearson and anyone else on an expiring contract that garners worth while interest from other GM's.
What GM publicly begs for 2 more years? |

So he is suggesting take a step back because in two years it will pay off.
I know a GM that said that three days ago and got flamed by an entire market including the idiot writer suggesting to do that.
If you want to take advice on how to build a NHL team from a sports bettor / analytic guy , it is your money.

Motte will need a raise, and since we’re still two years away they should get what they can now and develop a new Motte fit the future. - 1970vintage

Would Debrusk for Virtanen and Pearson be enough? |

Benning using the media to increase Pearsons trade value by saying we are looking to re-sign him is not a possibility because Jim is too dumb
Any other GM using the media to try to raise value of a player is a brilliant strategical move. |

Canuck luck. Pearson is literally the unluckiest player in the league this season |

I am happy our goals against in 4 of the last 5 games have been very respectable .
I think the only way the team does not try to sell off players is if they are super hot in the next 12 games.
I still think Canucks have one of the best all around teams in the league and could easily get their crap together. I bet there are a number of teams that would love not to play us in the playoffs

Is that the same Benning who used the media to increase JV's value by throwing him under the bus after the playoffs?
No no, JB is too smart for that |

I think that re-sign Pearson is not the worse idea.
PodK-EP-Boeser
Hoglander-Bo-JV
Pearson - Miller - Gaudette
That would be a really good top 9 IMO. Could role 3 lines very evenly, giving more to the one rolling the best that night. And use the 4th line for rest/Defensive duties. Ideally JV gets upgraded on, but if he plays an entire season(or most of) like he has the last few games, we would be quite dangerous and deeper than we have been in a decade. |

Threw him under the bus right before he signed his contract .
I guess you would like him to say I love this player lets go sign a new deal |

It would be a very good top 9 . No one knows what term or value is being discussed so the media making it an issue is a joke . Then again Vancouver media is a joke.
