Hughes has had a good rookie season and a terrible 2nd season. I would think 4 might be more appropriate. - Reubenkincade
strategically, if you are the player (EP or QH) or the agent, and you recognize a depressed nhl economy vis-a-vis a flat cap for a couple years, why not just insist on only 1 year contracts.
take the lower contract dollars but keep doing 1 year deals.
once the nhl cap starts to rise again, you are at UFA or close enough.
if the team insists on multi-year deals (or even bridge deals) hold your ground. who has more bargaining power? the team/jb or the stars? especially if your agent is dealing with both the team's stars. add in the threat of europe (especially for EP) and they have a lot of bargaining power.
bottom line: if i was an RFA with power (meaning a star player) insist on 1 year deals and just wait until UFA.
food for thought. |

He causes more against than what he creates. That is not a good thing.
The coach overplays him and doesn't hold him accountable for his horrendous play.
I did like them make him serve that penalty for too many men last night, he was the one that was the extra man that went onto the ice.
Edit; he is not leading the league in points. - Reubenkincade
Tied for second for Dmen one behind the leader.

And what if that player gets hurt? Or has a down year? You've lost your meal ticket, or you're signing for less and less.
Not as likely with QH or EP, but still possible |

there's a certain amount of risk granted, but if they're really concerned, take out an insurance policy.
the premium each year would be substantial but it mitigates the risk. |

Trade JTM for Byram
Get Seattle to take Myers
Sign Taylor Hall short term
Trade JV + for Cernak
Prosper. - NewYorkNuck
No offense meant but I am not trading JTM for a player with two NHL points.

About 10th amongst defensemen in points per game.
He is leading the league in the - aspect though. |

After yesterdays announcement by Bettman about flat cap for three years Petey and Hughes need to start thinking 6 mil . - VANTEL
You have to remember that because of escrow, players will only be getting a portion of their stated salary. So signing for $8mil might mean you only earn 7, but players will still sign those $8m deals - so that they are paid relative to their peers. If Boeser is making $7m you know Pettersson will earn at least that. There likely won’t be much inflation (unless a player goes long) but you can bet that the current numbers will hold for the next three years. |

Boeser signed his second contract for 5,875,000 in non covid years and I believe that is fair for Petey and Hughes. Let's say 6 mil.

I mean, sure? Sort of seems like a weird argument to make against trading for a 19 year old projected number 1 D whose only played 15 games. Lots of other reasons to not trade for him, but if you're only basing it on points, that seems a bit off. |

For the record, Chris Chelios had 2 points his first season (12 games) |

Canucks already have two players like him in the organization.

This is an interesting strategy.
Although you are assuming that the cap will be going up at the end of the cba/4 years.
With the amount of money lost last season and this season, the players will suffer for a decade and the cap will probably go down after the 4 years. |

You guys can have your fun but it is fun to look at.
Fire Benning he is terrible at trades but let's trade JTM who finished 17 th in scoring last year for a guy that has played 15 games and has two assists.
Got it.

That didn't really answer the question
And I think trading JTM while his value is high – and before his contract is up just when the Canucks window is starting to open – is not a bad idea... and it's such a short sighted argument to minimize a 12 game career for a 19 year old. QH didn't even play when he was 19!
So, again, which are the two in the Canucks org? |

The answer is nobody.
That doesn't matter though because the Bruins let Bobby Orr go in free agency back in '76. |

Well Byram has played 15 games and has -3 on a very good defensive team which would probably be higher - on the Canucks . So firstly I will say the Dman we have with 24 points might be one.
OJ has 1 goal half the points as Byram but is a +3
Rathbone has taken over the number one on the PP in Utica I think he is a comparable .
Anyways let me know when we trade JTM for a guy that has played 15 games and has the same potential as Bobby Orr or an Ovechkin like Lafrieniere |

Josh Anderson only scored 1 goal last season. |
