I was already wrong about the draft 2 days ago, and again, correct me if I am wrong, but UFA status starts 7/1, while draft is 6/29. So, technically, if Flyers leave Laughton unprotected, Seattle has 3 days of exclusive talking rights with him to ensure he will sign with them if they pick him. - PT21
No he doesn’t have to be protected....a good reason for the Flyers not to re-up him until after the draft....of course they run the risk of losing him. |

Seattle would have high interest in Patrick if left unprotected. - MJL
Well, they can only draft 1 player, so its either Ghost or Patrick, though I still hope they take JVR.

Anyway, the Flyers haven't won a game in regulation in the last four games. I don't think anyone will argue that this is not a streak. |

Binnington just got 6yr/36M today, this should set the market for Hart's next deal, which given the way he has played this year should be less than this. |

No one HAS to be protected except Hayes and Giroux, right? As of 6/29, Laughton is a player on the Flyers roster. If he is not protected, he could be picked and count as the Seattle selection from the Flyers roster, unless I am missing something.
Anyway, I would sign him before that, and expose the other 2 I mentioned. |

If you can replace ghost with the Ek or someone similar with term you do it; even if it includes a 1st. It improves the d the rest of this year and next. Nah keep waiting. |

Two completely different markets. Binnington had UFA leverage. Hart does not. Not to mention he's not having a great season.

No need to go long term on hart just yet. Bridge deal. See what you have in Erson |

I the Flyers aren’t going to try and contend this year or next then Fletcher should be really busy getting rid of Jake, JVR and Braun and maybe ask Giroux to waive his NMC. I don’t think the Flyers brass would agree...they have a lot of high paid vets for which the window is starting to close....they have some really good young players who are getting better. They also have guys under achieving and that’s the area that needs to be addressed but make no mistake the Flyers think they can contend. - landros 2
Just curious, why Braun? Isn't he only signed for this year anyway? Heck, I'd argue that defensively, he's been one of the better Dmen this year and at a good price too. G won't be moved. |

At this point I'd rather see Wisdom or Foerester learn and play over watching Jake coast and refuse to play defense. All of the perceived depth/future cannot either stay heathy or plan against men to consider: Allison / Ratcliffe /Rubstov / laczynski /Strome / Sandin |

Hey, I will take that as a compliment, after all Rutherford's got a ring at least - jd250
I think he meant that Fletch would have to have Rutherford type savvy to be able to "unload" Jake, as you put it. |

Seattle will have a 48 hour window before the expansion draft to negotiate with any pending UFA. If they sign a UFA, that will be considered their pick from whatever team the UFA player previously played for. They however cannot select a UFA in the expansion draft itself.
Signing Laughton before the ED would be a mistake. Get a hand shake "wink-wink" deal in place and wait until after.

No, not a streak. Flyers hoppling
That second Caps goal, where NAK at the offensive blue line passes to Sanheim who is under pressure of two Caps skaters, turns it over and the Caps score. I don’t think NAK should have passed that to Sanheim. He is supposed to get it deep or take it to the net. Was Sanheim too low or too trusting that the puck would go deep?

Braun is signed for next season also. I have no issue with Braun as a 3rd pair PKer. He gives everything he has and defends well. Problem is when you're playing him in your top 4.

I think you're right. Aube-Kubel should've backhanded that puck deep. Also this is what we're talking about in attention to detail. Look what Gustafsson is doing on the play. Why is he skating laterally backwards away from the play towards the opposite boards. As soon as he sees the puck come up high like that, he belongs skating back to the middle of the ice to protect on a breakout in the event of a turnover. It's rarely just one mistake with this team. It's usually one mistake compounded by others.

I didn't know that he was signed into next season, thanks. I agree with you on the rest. Heck, Seattle has to mind their Salary Cap as well, Braun with 1 year left on the cheap wouldn't be that bad depending on how things work out. |

If that wink-wink deal is winky enough for Seattle to know about and be dissuaded from trying to woo away Laughton during the negotiating period, then fine.
Else they may theoretically woo away Laughton during the negotiating period, and sign say Raffl as their pick. Then they sign Laughton when UFA opens. So we lose 2 players instead of 1.
(Btw, ED is apparently 6/21 not 6/29 as I think I wrote earlier).
EDIT: Every site I look at shows different dates. But based on this, it seems ED is 7/21 and UFA starts a week later.
If contract years start on July 1, I have to confess I do not understand why Farabee would not be in the 3rd year of his ELC then.
What a mess! |

Of the 4 goals against, not counting the empty netter, 3 were results following a turnover. The Dowd goal, Sanheim was beat and maybe that is just a bad bounce off of Ghost’s skate.

Based on what MJL wrote, the only way this makes sense is that if Seattle does come to terms with an unprotected UFA, then they do not pick from the player's current team during the ED.
(So, if they come to terms with Laughton, then they do not select anyone from Flyers during the ED. Because if they can, they could end up with 2 players from the organization.)
Thus, the wink-wink deal with Laughton would have to be public enough that Seattle does not start negotiating with Laughton during the previous 2 days. |

Although they can take only one player per team through the ED process, I suppose they can take multiple UFAs from the same team during free agency. I don’t recall if that actually happened following the Vegas draft. I remember it being pointed out that Vegas had already had preliminary negotiations with available UFAs before the other teams.

Frustrating part is that they are dumb turnovers. They just make a lot of dumb plays with the puck and it isnt just 1 guy, its everyone. With the G pulled this team looks like a bunch of 5 year olds trying to move the puck

Besides Hez, Roo: protect TK, JVR, Couts, Laughton and Nopa.
Expose Voracek and Oskar. They will take Raffl over those 2 anyway! - PT21
Laughton is a free agent so he is exempt and doesn’t need to be protected I believe. sign him after the expAnsion draft. |
