I agree with this wholeheartedly. There seems to be a lack of trust in one another. Players seem to be over pursuing and getting themselves out of position as if they don't trust that the other guys on the ice are going to do their jobs.
You can call it the Kelly Lee style of play (for you original Bad News Bears Fans) When he was running around catching everyone's fly balls because the coach and he didn't believe they could catch it themselves. The difference being the other team swiftly occupies the empty space because you left your assignment to cover someone else's. That to me reeks of a lack of confidence in what everyone else is doing. - MBFlyerfan

Exactly and one of the reasons I believe Carter Hart is struggling. He is worrying too much about what is happening in front of him. I am certain he will rebound soon but I think some new blood, ie Ekholm, Doughty etc is what it will take to right this ship. |

You need to start creating a more impressive first post for gamedays. Something like:

I think we see the same thing happening but disagree on why it is happening. I don't think it's about lacking trust in one another. I think it's about a mistake made that starts a snowball of reactions. That's what happens in the defensive zone. One breakdown leads to another and another, until everyone is out of position and trying to cover two players or caught in no man's land. Just in the last few games, I can show on goals scored against the Flyers how one small detail and misplay leads to a chain reaction through the team.

Im sure of that. He sees an opponent standing alone at his doorstep while 3 of his teammates are over on the opposite boards, you bet he is thinking, I gotta cheat over just in case the puck gets to this guy...... |

Adding a single player in a trade that also creates holes elsewhere is not the solution. It will not solve the Flyers team wide issues.
I'm a huge Doughty fan but the Flyers have no business touching that contract.

This to me depends on what the cost is. Sending Gus and picks..... does it create a hole? Yes you’ll have a few less prospects one year but is that a hole? Just speculating. |

No way I want an 11,000,000 cap hit for 6 more seasons after this one. I don't care who he is.

Good observation Claude, I thought I was the only one seeing it and didn't want to be the first to post because you know you will get dumped on by all these people that think that he is the second coming of Mark Howe. Provorov has been playing terrible most of the year and as a matter of fact most D that have been paired with him this year have seen there games go down when paired with him. Sanheim and Myers play well together, neither plays well with Provorov, Braun and Ghost are both at their worst when paired with Provorov, going back to the first game against the Penguins a couple of weeks ago and ever since Provorov has the worst plus- minus at even strength than all the rest of the D. My thinking is that its fatigue, I don't think he is capable of or should even be trying to play 25-27 minutes a game at this stage of his development. If the Flyers have all their hope in Provorov being their #1 guy than things are looking bleak for them, he could be the top guy on a second pairing or a second guy on the top pairing but he is not the top guy on a first pairing. - Dr. Pepper
I’m really not sure what to make of it, he’s played high minutes in the past and they talk about him and his training being elite. It seems like he’s fighting the puck, over chasing in the corners. Idk if he’s thinking way too much out there or what but he doesn’t look comfortable at all. Unfortunately we don’t really have the horses to lighten his load either. |

Sabres will pride there way to five wins against the Pens. The 5 on 5 play will match the PP and PK at some point.

Someone else pointed this out and got scorched for it. How many times have the bruins and pens played the Devils tho? |

"prevail in the skills competition"
lol
let's go back to ending in a tie after OT.
only the casual fans care if a regular season game ends in a win or loss.
the more dedicated fans understand that the good old days of 1 point apiece was a better performance indicator for both teams.
more importantly its simplicity worked much better for the standings, where it really mattered.
</old_man_rant1>
<old_man_rant2>
the league should make the devils and their minor league team practice and play for the remainder of the season on the road.
it's clear that newark is the anti-bubble.
the leagues protocols are a joke if they don't do squat.

The way to fix Provorov is to clean up the team defensive issues. It is the silver bullet for this team to maximize it's current potential.

What if the plyers are not buying into what the coach is teaching defensively? |

They probably won't last long in the NHL. He doesn't ask the forwards to do anything extraordinary. The third Buffalo goal that saw TK standing right next to the guy that scored, is not a system or coach issue. That is a player that is not doing all that is required for this team to win.

Yep and you could see it in his face that he immediately knew he was soft on his coverage.

Its an amazing stat. #1 PP and top 10 PK. Yet still near the bottom of the league.
Completely counterintuitive. - MBFlyerfan
Yep which kind of makes them a slightly scary proposition if they get the 5-on-5 figured out.

So do you keep said players if it becomes an issue? Look at what the coach said about Myers; maybe that applies to some forwards as well. |
