(frank) that. Game was over and he needed an old school team building moment. I would have thrown a few sticks on the ice and taken the $50k fine too.
That call on Hyman was pure bullpoop. - The Law
I agree on the Hyman call, the call on Rielly was bullpoop as well - other than self harm what does taking that penalty or a fine accomplish? Team building my ass. If the officials suck - force the league to due something about it. They work for you not the other way around. Poison every bad official on a regular basis, (frank) them at every opportunitiy but do it quietly out of the media and not during a game. Make the bastards accountable. |

4 unanswered goals in the 3rd...... - mr.sir
The Jets shot the puck at the net at every opportunity. They knew that if they threw everything at Freddy eventually some would find net. Another two 65' shots wobbled in as well as the "searching for lost coins" dribbler. Too bad the Leafs didn't try the same against the Jet's backup.

While in theory I agree... It is naive to think these guys don't talk and compile a list of "out to get us" teams and coaches ... better, at least to me is let those calls even out over time.
I still think the Sheldon penalty was more a message to all the guys w/o actually having to light into anyone in particular. I think you'll see a much better and cohesive effort tonight. |

I actually like Hyman on the HEM line -- as much as his elite puck retrieval skills can help the top line, I think he drives that 3rd line and gives his mates some looks. - mjones242
I’m not worried about the impact on third line. Most of the combos have looked ok.
If Matthews really can’t shoot, they could put a shooter up there with them: Spezza? Robinson? All the chances on the Jets’ goalies were in tight. I would have loved to have seen some shots from the slot on them to force them out a bit. It’s amazing that Matthews can continue to score |

Any chance Campbell is healthy enough to play tonight?
If hutch goes I don’t like our chances. |

I wonder if Simmonds gets an extended look on the top line? He is fearless in front of the net (screening ftw!) and can knock in some much needed garbage goals.
For oZone starts especially -- it just feels like the right fit.
Can't get him back fast enough.

What makes the line work is puck possession, retrieval and ability to score from anywhere. When Matthews can’t shoot, they lose a lot of the last bit. Simmonds crashing and screening creates mayhem that doesn’t solve that problem and works better for a less skilled line IMO. Joe does some crease time and is a better passer. I still think if Matthews can’t shoot at an elite level but has his other skills, put a shooter up there.

Why? Freddy's SV% last four games .844, .889. .826 and .871 - what is the risk of using Hutch? Also should rest Matthews. Let Marner and JT earn some of their sizeable salaries. PS Leafs shoulld have considered going with six attackers from the first faceoff with those numbers.

Except for the 4 mph floater wrist shot that got slightly deflected. Oh no ! a deflection those are unstoppable. Tying goal . Lowry's goal was in close, horrible misplay on the puck, then Lowry shoveled a 2 mph dribbler under his pad
. The last goal by Scheifele was right through him from the top of the face off circle, not close in but not 65' out either. He stunk but wasn't the main reason the Leafs lost. .871 SV% is shyte |

We have had a huge Holl in our defense the last 5 games. I would not be upset if he never pinched again. |

Expectations for Freddy have gotten ridiculous.
Basically as long as Freddy stops the super easy shots the rest of the goals dont matter. Its hockey...both teams will generate good and great chances in a game...the goalie is there to make those tough saves. |

Agree he has been bad. He makes $2 million, time for JT and Marner to contribute a little more offense. 1 shot on goal for Marner, 2 for Tavares - with Matthews unable to shoot, would expect those two to at list fire 3 or 4 shots on a sh!t goalie.
