Obviously I would prefer that they get something over nothing, but stop wasting my time and insulting my intelligence by saying you are going to start doing something soon. For a guy who “ran out of time” he sure spends a lot of his time not doing anything. - 1970vintage
I agree, i'm not even sure why JB is talking about an extension with him other than Toffoli is tearing it up. Pearson isnt near Toffoli in terms of quality.
Without any buy outs or sending players down Canucks have 28 mil in space with Ferlands LTIR . 13 players under contract.

Demko 5 mil
Podz 900 K
Gauds 1 mil
OJ 1 mil
Rathbone 900k
Hamonic 2 mil
Lind 1 mil
Edler 3 mil
Total 10 players 28 mil. - VANTEL
There is also the deferred bonus overages that need to be paid. Plus any bonuses Hodge and Podge may get. (Also, injuries.)
Or they are constantly shuffling these bonus payments from one season to the next. Part of the problem when living so close to the limit, no margin for error.
One thing I don’t get (yes, pretty much the only thing). Why is Jim going to start negotiating a new deal for Pearson “very soon”? Why not now? If you are going to do something do it. Or don’t do it, but stop talking about. It’s not just the players who are soft... - 1970vintage
I know this is going to get a good laugh but I am pretty sure the reason it was let out to the media is probably because a few teams kicked tires on Pearson with underwhelming offers.
It could have been discussed at a meeting maybe we can get better offers if we say we are going to keep him.
I would be somewhat surprised if Pearson was actually going to be a Canuck next year. I would even lean more to very little chance.

Petersson missing 10 games and having a less than stellar year is probably going to ease the bonus situation. Not knowing what the bonuses are for makes it hard to comment but it could go as high as 3.9 that can be paid over two years.

This is what I think as well.
Pretty sure the capologist has informed Benning that they can't afford him and the team has figured out that he is a bit to slow, although a reliable player.

Rick Dhaliwal told Benning we can't afford him?
He must have asked Dayal or Drance for that?
