Cups are the end all be all. But those teams of the past were MUCH MUCH MUCH better and enjoyable to watch, than the poop they have put together since 2010.
They traded division championships with the Devils for like 10 years, won series, won conferences. They ran into some really really good teams in the finals and if that ‘04 team wasnt decimated by injuries they would have won the Cup.
I’ll take that any day of the week. The Flyers were a team other teams were afraid to play because they were tough and talented.
That said, the cap has changed that. You can’t be haphazard anymore. And the Flyers have not adapted well to it.
Your point is valid, but the Flyers for the majority of their existence were one of the best teams in hockey. Always relevant. To see them be so BLAH, irrelevant, poopty has been hard for fans to adjust to.
Lastly, to see a Flyers team quit in that second period, show no fight back in the game, totally unwilling to mix it up a little, and be totally defeated in the postgame press conference, ESPECIALLY after not backing up Laughton the other day is spitting on the legacy of everything this franchise has ever stood for. I’m embarrassed by how they showed ZERO push back. They rolled over.
You want to know why fans are upset, well there is your answer. - Flyers1218
It's completely understandable that fans are upset and frustrated. That was really probably the worse loss any of us have seen. However, big picture, is being relevant enough? I personally found being good but never good enough more frustrating. Yea, the Flyers can make some trades, move some young assets for better more established players in a quick fix and become relevant. Dave Scott's dream. They likely won't be good enough to come close to winning a Cup, will come into issues with the cap as those players age and decline and then be right back where they were when Hextall took over. Would that upset you? Would you find that frustrating?

It was about as bad as it gets. Tonight will say a lot about this team and whether they have any hope in turning things around this season. It’s going to be an uphill battle the rest of the way regardless if they can turn it around, but I hope they come out and look like a team that has some pride tonight. |

I do too. They lose the next two and I’d say it’s lights out on the season. They’d need a 10 game run to get back into the discussion, and I don’t see it. We’d be fine if we were in the North div. Haha.

For two periods they all played far worse than you can even imagine. Our goalies never stood a chance. Then for the 3rd they played like it was a friendly scrimmage. No fire. No urgency.
I literally cannot wait for Chuck to make significant changes to this roster. We shouldn’t have to watch the wheels come off every goddamn season. |

I want a competitive hockey team every year that makes the playoffs and has chance. That's all you can ask in this league, is a chance as it is the hardest playoffs to win IMO. The CAPS seem to have been competitive over the last many years, making deadline deals here and there and have managed to win a Cup. Why can't the Flyers? They do have an all time great scorer, is that the only difference with them and us? The 2010 team almost had everything and almost won ( Leighton had some good playoff games) but they were very entertaining.
Easier said than done but I want an entertaining hockey team that competes, and is rewarded for it

I’m interested to see how he handles it in the likely event we miss the playoffs. I was very happy with the team progress last year and they fought hard to get to 7 games in the second round. Definite progress. A lot was expected, even wi Th losing nisky and it’s not gone well. If they revert to A non playoff team, I can’t see them standing pat especially once the offseason hits. I have advocated for a core shakeup for a while and while I like Jake, sometimes, you have to change up the core leadership group. We talk about losing nisky on the ice, but I think he was also very valuable in the locker room to steady the team. A proven playoff winner. Looks like they miss that aspect as well.
Maybe a hockey trade to shake up the core is needed. I’ll tell you what, it’s not The coach. The core has gone through Many. I expect chucky is fully aware of all of these facts.

St Patrick's Day Massacre - DrMidnite
I was thinking that last night as well..
Cant adequately communicate my hatred for this team, its ownership, hockey operations and coaching staff now in a public forum without using a lot of forbidden words. Criminals is as polite as it gets for stealing our money via Comcast subscriptions/NHL Center Ice , the national TV deal or logo merchandise.

Very good assessment. Was thinking the same thing. Losing 9-0 didn’t bother me as much as when the the second period started and here was no response, nothing ! Showing the replay of one of the Rangers goals the announcer said where is everybody? Meaning the Flyers forwards. Disgusting. Wish we could send them all to Seattle lol. Can’t remember who said it but (player) they said hockey is about effort and second efforts. I see none of it. |

I would also keep Patrick. I think he’s going to come around and be a solid top six center with a few more years of maturing.
Coots needs to be a haul for me to move him. Everyone else aside from those you’ve mentioned is fair game. I’m not totally attached to TK tho. |

Constant changes of direction and knee jerk reactions are a big reason why this team hasn't won jack poop in a long time. Just sayin'. - Tomahawk

Yes. And don’t know why people don’t like Laughton. I have a small don’t move list. But this team has absolutely no identity, no fight, and now I question their heart. Not our hart. Glad he is mentally tough. Hope Elliott tells him and sure he is. This is not a reflection of him. |

Why. Don’t they just need practice time? Thought that was what you said.
G was ashamed as he should be. Showed his face multiple times.
Am glad hart didn’t get angry enough to break his stick in someone. And if I were him I would’ve pulled myself the last minute. Go after that goose egg bits. Well done. |

We had a team that had a chance year after year in the Holmgren era. They came close once and to do that they had to trade for Pronger. Not likely a player like that, a true difference maker becomes available. I want more than a chance. I want a top team and a legit contender with an open window for a significant period of time. When and if the Flyers get to that point, then I want the Flyers to make deals. You don't get to that point by making deals.

Add coots. Unless we are going into another rebuild. - Peter Richards
He will be 30 years old when in the first year of his next contract. Add 3/4 years after that when the flyers are "contenders". He will then be 33/34 with a lot of heavy miles on his body. He will not age like Clode or Booby imo seeing the type of game he plays.
If you want to pay him 8+ million for 6-8 years by all means go ahead. It will be a Clode scenario all over again.
So you either do what you have to the next 4 years (assuming he is resigned) to win a cup or move him. |
