Instead of this nonsense, what would you have done In that situation to be a leader, Messier?
- KINGKENZO

In a game like this we miss Gudas. Needed someone to step up and make the big open ice hit or clear in front of the net.
That was my reaction when I played. Guys cherry picking for stretch passes...only once!

Almost hate to say it...bring on Ekholm.
Plus, I dont give a (frank). I have Morin and Ghost as third pair. What's going to happen? 12-0.
At least it could be entertaining. Be nice to see Sammy tune up Martin real quick.
If your are getting your asses kicked on the score board, step the (frank) up.
Note: I have discovered I say f u c k so much I forget it may offend people. Ah, (frank) it...lol

Losses like that not only shake confidence in yourself, but it also shakes the confidence you have in your team mates.

I already felt like these players weren't very confident in each other. And it was manifesting itself in how they were out there trying to do too much. Getting out of position etc etc etc.

That IMO stems from the fact they don't think the guy out there is going to be able or willing to do HIS job so he thinks he needs to cover for him as well. Then the whole thing collapses.

This team needs a major shakeup. Be it a trade, sitting a top player, what have you.

I just see a team that doesn't trust each other to do their jobs. Its up to the coach to get them to worry about themselves on the ice. Do YOUR job and no one else's, because that is THEIR job. This is where AV earns his money.

Sadly I'm coming around. I was stoked the end of last year. I understood the bubble play. I understand Nisky not wanting to be part of this season.
I understand the lack of camp, practice and rest.
I DONT UNDERSTAND the lack of compete.
We have some extremely good players. We have a lot of them. We can put out 4 strong lines. There shown they can play with anyone.
We did have turn over. 4 guys from last years playoffs are gone.
When I think of teams if past I think if Richard's. THEE SHIFT. I think of G burying Crosby and scoring on the opening shift. I think of the Lindros Wrecking crew.
Basically the never say die attitude. That is what I dont see.
I dont see it as a 3 man core issue. I see a bad mix. Good players, bad team.
Also, I was expecting not more, I was expecting SOMETHING from both Patrick and Oskar. They replaced Grant and Pitlick. Should be an upgrade . Is it a slotting problem?
It's just sad to see. This my friends is what a capped team looks like. Bad mix, no trades.

I've never actually seen a clear answer or been able to watch Phantoms games.

Is Morin back to playing defense?

He is from what I understand, and if so I would love him to anchor our 3rd pair and PK. At this point, what do we have to lose?

He was back to D. Phantoms were thin. I'm not sure now.
The left wing bit was to try to get him ice time and put some size, snarl in the line up.
He wasn't coming into camp in the top 8 of d men.

Its great to watch from a fans perspective, but hoe does it stop what was going on last night...it doesnt. Its why saying the game is on "leadership" is ridiculous

You say it perfectly, we have good players, but a bad team. The Culture is off on this team. You bring up great examples of leadership, of fight, of pushback. Its been lacking on this team for quite a while and that is why they can't put 60 minutes of kickass hockey together. In a game like last night, the younger players look to the veterans for leadership, for what to do in that situation. They got nothing but crickets ... and that cannot happen!

Adrenalin is a magical thing. Last night the game kept building against the Flyers and they did nothing to stop it. At 4-0 the game was over, we all know it. But that is when the Flyers as a team needed to push back harder if for no other reason than to set the tone that this result is unacceptable we will not stand for it. Unfortunately they did none of that last night, and its going to impact them the rest of this season. This is the type of loss that ends seasons and gets coaches fired. I am pretty sure AV is not going anywhere, but I have to think a few players will be going soo enough.

Even Keith Jones last night said after the game, that this is the type of loss that has lasting effects, that its typically not able to be overcome on a team. So I am sure the Flyers will come out angry tonight and may even come out of the 1st period up a goal or two. But after that it will be more of the same and in the end, another loss to a better team.
- jd250

That would be great however how long does that last? I don’t want two good games then back to inconsistency.

He practiced yesterday for the first time since he broke his arm.
Get him. cant cost much. A 4the line of Oskar, Patrick and Simmer would be interesting.

What knee jerk reactions have they had over the past ten years?
- Peter Richards

I dunno, hitting an entire team reset just to fit Bryzgalov under the cap after Snider said "never again", then having to BO Bryz just two years later? Losing Chris Pronger and then, out of desperation, stumbling into 6-years of Andrew MacDonald? Pulling the plug on Hextall because Dave Scott wrongly felt it was time to go all in? Signing Kevin Hayes to a 7-year deal w/ a NMC b/c NP was hurt probably also qualifies.

I'm sure there's others from the past 10 years that are escaping me right now, and pleeeennty more in the Clarke era. Further back then that, I'd have to defer to one of our boomerier HB'ers.

Very good assessment. Was thinking the same thing. Losing 9-0 didn’t bother me as much as when the the second period started and here was no response, nothing ! Showing the replay of one of the Rangers goals the announcer said where is everybody? Meaning the Flyers forwards. Disgusting. Wish we could send them all to Seattle lol. Can’t remember who said it but (player) they said hockey is about effort and second efforts. I see none of it.
- Angus4444

Unfortunately, this core has learned to say the right things over the better portion of the last decade. They either cant or are unwilling to back up their words. One of G or Jake can’t be here next year. It may piss off the team. Those 2 players may get the brunt of the blame even if they aren’t the culprits.

But they’ve been here through all of it. The bad starts, inability to play a full 60 minutes, horrible team defense. Time for a leadership change and a different voice. Maybe they are too buddy buddy with the younger players? I don’t know? What I do know was that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are not only great players, but they put their teammates on notice that anything less than max effort is unacceptable. Tampa talked about that all year.

I don’t know if G or Jake do that... I’m not in the room. But this team has an accountability problem. It’s not the coach. Time for the senior most players who have been here through it all to take the fall, fair or not.

I don't mean this as a personal attack because you seem like a smart guy, but this is pure nonsense. You are going back 10+ years to a time before Hextall started?? Since Hextall took over and now with Fletcher, there has been no knee-jerk reactions and no major changes in philosophy. Signing Hayes was a necessity given how badly Hextall screwed up by drafting Patrick, thus we had no 2nd line center. Its turning out to be a bad move given how poorly Hayes has been playing this year. But Hextall signed JVR in 2018 to a similar contract so this seems pretty consistent.

Me either, having hindsight on your side to call out bad moves doesn’t mean they are knee jerk reactions
