Nothing is set in stone right now, but for him to come over would require some MAJOR hoop jumping from him/the Canucks through multiple organizations.. and like you said, it wouldn't really impact the team in any major way (he couldn't play in the playoffs if they make it) and hurts the team in the long run, so why bother?

I didn't say he couldn't play in the playoffs. I don't know why he wouldn't be able to as others have stated. Makar did it years ago.

I don't know the rules of his eligibility though. Lots seem to interrupt it differently it seems.

The NHL Rules
To play in the NHL playoffs, a player must be on the NHL roster by the deadline (to clarify, not the 23-man active roster, here, but the 50-man roster of players under NHL contract who are in the NHL or loaned elsewhere). The only exception to this is the case of players on the reserve list (mostly unsigned drafted players) who are playing in Europe or the NCAA. Occasionally they will sign an ELC and play on the NHL team in the playoffs after their season is over.
