'NHL is investigating comments made by a referee on a hot mic during Tuesdays Red Wings Preds game deputy commissioner Bill Daly and director of officiating Stephen Walkom told the Athletic.

After Viktor Arvidsson was called for tripping Jon Merrill early in the second period, a voice was heard on the broadcast saying " It wasn't much, but I wanted to get a fu*ckin penalty against Nashville early in the ..." before the audio cut out.

Referees Tim Peel and Kelly Sutherland were the two referees assigned to the game, which the Preds went on to win 2-0. Peel announced the penalty.
