It's not just Peel and Sutherland the league got caught as well. It will get swept away by Bettman and his butt boys. |

everyone knows this happens. "make up" calls happen nightly in the NHL. The refs miss one, it shows on the replay, the bench goes nuts, they call a super soft one later on in the game and all is well.
Tim Peel just got caught on a mic.
Nothing really news worthy or to see, other than he got caught lol
does it make it right? absolutely not, but its certainly not new. |

I think it's hilarious Colon Campbell released a statement basically saying Peel was fired to preserve the integrity of the game. Hypocrisy at it's finest. |

I think the surprising part is that the league made a statement about it. Now people have something to point to directly every time their team gets (frank)ed over by equalizer penalties. |

so true... - LordHumungous
They are trying to give the impression that they fired him but the truth is he was set to retire after the regular season. He is suspended with pay ("fired")for the rest of the season and will retire with full pension. This is nothing new for sure but the optics especially with the NHL moving into gambling is awful. |

wait? so we can't have a hockey discussion if we don't agree? |

If the league is so concerned about the integrity of the game, maybe they should start doing something about all the phantom calls and the reason for non-calls.
I doubt most fans even know what a penalty is, anymore.

at the end of the day, this will be good for the league IMO. Refs will think twice about make-up calls, which is a good thing. The game is played so fast, and the refs can only see so much, so if they miss a call, they miss a call, no need to makeup a call later and ruin the integrity of the game. |

No, it won't. This is the same league that lets games get officiated differently between the regular season and playoffs. |

As Shorty pointed out the other night on the broadcast, league-wide penalty calling is already down form the start of the season. The refs are so inconsistent with their calls, and the calls change throughout the course of the season and then alter drastically with the playoffs.
It's just part of the fabric of the league, sure, but what other sport has two different set of rules? |

Get rid of the shootout.
And the loser point.
Neither will ever happen. |
