No, it won't. This is the same league that lets games get officiated differently between the regular season and playoffs. - Load Management
100% agree, not sure how you fix that
to their credit, I wouldn't want the job of a NHL ref during the stanley cup playoffs. |

Honestly, would it be as bad if they had an off-ice ref that reviewed penalties that were called and – if they were clearly wrong – mic'ed down to the on-ice ref to reverse it? It would take as long to review as the call happens.
Also, one thing that's bugged me, is that you can challenge a goal for being off-side as the play should have never happened. But you can still get a penalty on an off-side play, even though the play should have never happened. |

wait? so we can't have a hockey discussion if we don't agree? - Codes1087
We can...but is there a point? You aren't going to convince me any more than I'm gonna convince you. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that even at the highest levels of pro sports theres corruption. Is what it is bro.

Get rid of the shootout.
And the loser point.
Neither will ever happen. - Marwood
Ya, the shootout is silly, so is the 3 on 3, although at least it is entertaining.
If they are going to keep this formula for tied games, then 3 for regulation win, 2 for OT/SO win and 1 for the tie, is probably the fairest way to go. |

They should definitely have a clock on zone entry, after 5/10 seconds the play is considered onside regardless. |

I can't tell if you are agreeing with me or disagreeing, because you don't want to talk about it with me like you are disagreeing, but the above says that you are agreeing with me lol. Either way, I will post one more thing about it below to you and will leave it at that. But the bigger problem here, is that we can't lose sight of the fact that people on this site are going to disagree, but that it can be done in such a way that is civil and respectful, which has been 99% of the case between you and I when we don't agree. People shouldn't have to hide away from their opinions for being different, just food for thought.

""Imagine the scenario where they score on that power play, we lose the game and we miss the playoffs by a point? Imagine that scenario. That could happen. That is not out of the realm of possibility. I don't think there's a place in hockey for that. You gotta call the game. I've always been frustrated when I see even up calls or something like that. If one team is earning power plays you can't punish them because the other team is not. That call was not a good call on Arvi. We were watching and were like 'what the heck was that, that wasn't even close to a penalty.' It was bizarre. I hope that's not something that goes on with most officials, but there's definitely nights when you're skeptical of it for sure." |

The game has been played for over 100 years, with some type of tie system in place and has been pretty successful with it in place.

I Reffed minor hockey in my early teens to make some extra money. It was one of the hardest jobs I had because it is divisive by nature and, as proven by this discussion, you will never be able to please everyone all the time. You can't change the nature of the beast, nor fix it no matter how hard you try. |

i dont envy their jobs at all, come playoffs or regular season. Its partly why i have a ton of respect for Wes Mcauly. Guy gets yelled at and poop on nightly by the team and coaches and is still able to be super upbeat and happy and cheery all the time.

I get that. But, for example as its recent, that tripping call on Rous last game. If Short and Garrett can see within the first 7 seconds of a Sportsnet replay that it's not the correct call by any degree – before Rous is even in the box – I'm sure a dedicated off-ice official can just buzz down to the ref and say "That's wrong". That's all it would take, they rescind the penalty, drop the puck at center ice, and go on the way. Doesn't delay the game, no need for a makeup call, no animosity. |

Yup.
The 3 on 3 is somewhat tolerable but I turn off the TV for shootouts. |

What about a call that doesn’t get made, that should have. Does the eye in the sky call down and make a penalty call? What if a goal had been scored, do we wipe it out? |

That works for a phantom call, but it doesn't work for a missed call.
Maybe they need to let Linesmen make some calls, instead of the referees huddling with linesman and discussing a missed call, which usually leads to a makeup call, just let the linesman make the penalty call. |

that's actually a really good idea. Ref's cant see everything, so if its blatant and they miss it, the linesman should have the authority to blow the whistle and call it |

Maybe they should eliminate linesman and go to a four ref system. Then the refs could have coaches and a separate bench. They could dress 10 to make sure they keep their shifts short. Instead of a certain guy low and one at the line, ref coaches could devise different systems, R1-R2-R3 for the first guy in etc.
