I don't understand how anyone can know anything about this guy's life and take shots at him. All you really need to do is listen to any recent interview with him to get a sense for what a truly decent person he is and how far he's come. Like so many others, having a kid has transformed how he views his life. His numbers in a pretty dodgy situation are not terrible. Any team getting him for a playoff run would be reasonably certain they're getting the best he had left to offer.

I never used to be a fan of Bobby Ryan the player but I respect how he's turned his life around. It's never too late for anyone to do that. Criticize the player not the person I say. There's an argument to be made that Bobby Ryan might not get a 2nd round pick for the Red Wings. That's fine. But why even bring up the personal stuff? It's not going to affect his trade value at all.
Bobby Ryan is a class act. He's told Yzerman how much he loves being a Red Wing but he also understands it's a business. So he'd be fine with being traded to a playoff contender. As a Red Wings fan I really do hope Ryan re-signs with Detroit because he's become a real leader for a rebuilding Red Wings team.
I want THAT guy around my young players entering the NHL and being a good mentor for them. 👍
