Honestly Provy has been a poop show. Lets put Morin with Provy, we have nothing to lose. At least it makes a statement about identity. |

The thing about this Flyers team is they seem like a bunch of Nice Guys. - countreeman28
Just a bad mix on this team. Too many players who play on instinct. When they're scoring and the goalies play great it's a fun to play and they win. When it gets serious, like the playoffs (this COVID season is very playoffs like), and they need to play a structured game it stops being fun and they lose focus. They try like hell, but all their effort goes to waste. It's like trying to open a door in the wrong direction. You can push all you want, but it's not going to open unless you pull it. What forward on this team consistently plays a smart structured game? Couturier? JVR's been pretty solid this year. Braun isn't real skilled, but has played a generally solid game. Without a solid partner Provorov seems to have lost focus. |

You can't mess with me. How could you be messing with me when you've been made to look like a fool. Yes, it does need to be explained to you if you think Pederson put in Sudfeld to tank. He's simply giving a 3rd string guy who has been a good soldier and team player all season some playing time.
I knew you wouldn't have the fortitude. - MJL
Your posts since I waved the red flag are ample testimony to how easy it is to mess with you.
And yes, of course, he put in a guy who hasn't played in 2 years in a competitive regular season game against a bitter rival at halftime, while stopping the evaluation and experience of the possible future franchise qb, to give the good soldier some playing time.
Its pretty common. For example, once eliminated from playoffs, Flyers have historically played non-roster players in games against Rangers. You know, to give good soldiers their day under the light.
I suggest you write letters of outrage to the million people who said Eagles tanked. Start with Jalen "This ain't right", Hurts, continue with every single sports reporter in the city, and the country who commented, and take it up with Seth Joyner who ranted about it.
And finally, look up the definition of the word fortitude. It doesn't mean what you think it means. |

I honestly don't think they are bottom feeders. I think they are what they have been forever, a team about in the middle, who simply cannot make the hard decisions taken to get out of the rut.
This is much the same team of this time last year. To believe that they suddenly shed all their talent seems miraculous and I don't believe in miracles.
However, the truth lies in the middle. That stretch last year was as anomalous as this stretch now is. - PT21
That’s how the I feel about them now. They’re clearly better than the current stretch based on how they played last year but that torrid stretch right before and after the pause was an anomaly also. Some of this can be traced back to Hextall’s tenure in the mid-2010s when opted either by choice or salary cap constraints not to do a full tear down and instead keep the core intact and draft and develop guys to build around.

Actually he did have a point it was really a simple one that has escaped you. All he is simply saying is that if they're going to lose, he wants to team to go down with a fight rather than a whimper. Why is that so hard to understand for a scholar like yourself? - MJL
Because his 'point'
1. doesn't make any sense. If he wants teams to fight, then surely the fight will show up in the scoreboard as a closer game, which is what I wanted as well.
2. Was irrelevant. My statement was independent and irrelevant to how the Flyers fought or didn't.
He misunderstood, started off the bat with some random insults and then continued.
Now, with all due respect, I am out of this conversation. |

Buffalo, I presume.
EDIT: Btw, the same Provorov who you were saying (last year, after the playoffs) looks to you to be on the brink of perpetual Norris contention? |

For agreeing with what I have been ranting about since the 2014 Rangers seeries.
The "no we are not rebuilding yes we are" strategy of "staying competitive and building the farm" almost never works. |

If you feel Eichel wants out, make us an offer. |

I always try to keep the faith even when it’s bad. I always think back to 07 08. We were trucking along well. Then lost 10 in a row. Sky was falling. Rebounded to make the playoffs and went to the semis. Not saying that will happen here but bad stretches happen |

I would agree. The caveat though was his hand kind of being forced by the long term commitments to Giroux and Jake and even if you wanted to overhaul the roster, it would’ve been hard then and even now to move those guys.
I can understand his mindset though if he thought he could top line production while supplementing with kids coming up from the draft. Realistically, that may have been his only play. In hindsight, you wonder if they would’ve been in a different place had they gone in a different direction at head coach instead of Hakstol. |

I want to preface what I am about to say with this, I am not in here to troll.
I find this comment interesting because it is the same thing we were all saying at the beginning of the season in the Rangers blog. Trying to figure out if the goaltending woes were forcing the team to abandon the "system" and play completely disjointed, or if the system was to blame. The Rangers looked like this for at least a month when play started. A few bad goals would completely deflate the team, nuking both the goalie's and teams' confidence.
It's hard to tell exactly what is wrong when players that were absolutely lighting it up last season, were completely non existent at first too (Zibanejad, DeAngelo, Shestyorkin etc.).
Many of us wanted to fire the coaching staff and ship Zibanejad off or at least not pay him for his next contract. It's crazy what a little time (and some winning) can do. The Rangers still have a nearly impossible climb out of the hole they dug. The Flyers might flip a switch on Saturday and hand out a beat down of their own. - JRR1285
The difference between the rags and flyers is rags have speed and skill. There is no switch for philly. Keep the status quo |

Wasn't that the Umberger looking like Brett hull against Price year?
And when we yeah, went to playoffs, and then took the customary beat down against the Pens, who owned us at that time? Or is my old memory betraying me?
If I am right, the sky may not have fallen, but it sprung a leak. But that was when the losing streak stopped. The proof is the steady drizzle and fizzle over the next 13 years.

A game every other day for a month. NO practice time. Covid restrictions on many aspects of their lives.
It is definitely a unique time in many of these players lives.
That being said, they need to find a way to overcome it. Maybe when things chill out in April and they get some real practice time in they can right the ship.
All of the above would be factors for any human. But in the end, they need to find the mental fortitude to overcome it, and they haven't.

Yeah. The adversity is a step in the young cores development. This year, they had high expectations and for whatever reasons they are off the rails. It’s not a linear progression from make the playoffs and win a round to winning two to winning a cup. I did however expect them to make the dance, so this is a regression for sure.

Speaking of having the book on an opponent, Rangers seem to have the Flyers figured out completely. They send guys pressuring the point before the passes are even made. They know exactly how to bait defenders and tear open all the seams. Flyers are like an open book to them. - Tomahawk
No doubt advanced scouting comes into play. It does with every team. I think it's more about the Rangers top offensive players are supremely confident when playing the Flyers. it's literally like an all star game for them out there against the Flyers. Time to pad the stats.

No, that was not the only caveat. Voracek was tradable in those days, especially early. He did not have a NTC. He did not have to add JVR.
Why didn't he do it (trade 93, not sign 25)? Because I strongly believe that he went up against a culture among the Flyers, and many of its fans, (amply represented here) that you can cheat your way to the top without the real pain of truly sucking for some time.
Its funny, for the same franchise that prides itself historically on being a blue collar, lunch pail kinda team on ice, think they can finesse their way to contention AND be a playoff/borderline team during the years of sucking.
