Barkov and Horny are still out.
Smith and Svetch are in ,,,and no Stecher, Ryan
I want to know why no Stecher??? - HenryHockey
Me too re: Stecher. If he's been healthy scratched because of a couple of bad games against Nashville (which is what I suspect has happened), that is not a good look for Mr. Blashill. IMO Stecher has been one of our best D this year.

Oh, it goes on current positions! Gotcha!
- HenryHockey
Yeah, normally it's last season's standings for like the first month of the season, then current standings for the remainder of the year.

Stecher is the only D that has consistently helped drive play. |

Couple of quick comments:
One, before you can trade a player claimed off waivers in the same season, you are required to offer him to all other teams that put in a claim. The claim-and-trade scenario only works if Detroit is the only team to put in a claim. Otherwise, he can just go straight to whatever team was next in line.
Two, Ghost is way, waaaaaay better than Staal IMO. - Sven22
Wings would have to wait til the off-season to trade him. But how soon is the off-season? When the Wings are done, or when everyone is done? Trade to another team in re-build after season is done? Protect him in draft and trade him there? Probably better to hang on to him if they get him because of the need at LD.

I still wanna know who Philly is clearing space for! - HenryHockey
I bet it's Hall, dude. Ghost's salary is about 1/2 of Hall's, and PHI only has about $700k in space, so they need some dancing partners...….

Yes I agree. Which is why him being scratched without explanation is so frustrating.
And of course since the Wings have managed to win a couple of games without him I expect him to continue sitting for no good reason for at least another game or two. |

What's happenin', SVEN?!?! Thanks, brother. I wasn't aware of the claim-n-trade.
I've watched Ghost play several times, maybe I just saw some is his less energetic games, but I just don't see the need to do something drastic to take him and expect a significant upgrade on our D. He's been a stellar offensive D-man, but has fallen waaaay off. He can still anticipate & position himself better than Staal, for sure. Has some scoring pop, for sure, better than Staal. He's cheaper....I'm just not sold. But again, I dunno…….maybe worth the take...…. |

yup, he's been a great get......like to see him stay around for another year or so, but who knows what the TDL gives us. I'd opine that there won't be many trades of high-dollar players, but the movement of those "cheaper" guys will be pretty high overall. Too many teams are being smacked in the knee-caps with the flat-cap, so the big guys ain't going nowhere, overall. Stecher & Ghost????? Could be an interesting pairing...…. |

Yzerman can sign Taylor Hall to a 1 year deal this summer. Win the 2022 Draft Lottery. Draft Shane Wright. Then let Hall walk as a UFA. 👍
Even Gary can't stop the draft lottery power of Taylor Hall. |

I just want someone on the Red Wings to cave Radko Gudas' cheapshotting face in. Givani Smith? It's GO time!
I've thought about it. Stay away from Ghost. I don't like the 2 years at 4.5 mil AAV. I know we have tons of cap space next season. He's just been so awful for 2 seasons now. - gergeswillems
Smith & Svech recalled from the TS today...…...just sayen'. Might have to watch this tilt!!!

I say grab him, best case scenario, he either pans, or he can be left exposed for Seattle to potentially pick up. Worst case, he's a 5th or 6th defender on this team, still an upgrade over a few guys that have been cycled through this season. |

Was Drew Miller the Wings best waiver claim? Came to the Wings in '09 and stayed for 7 years. |

Technically Detroit is fourth in waiver priority, behind Buffalo, Anahiem, and Ottawa.
Buffalo doesn't have the cap space to claim him (lolololol), but the other two teams do. Not sure if they'd have an interest. - Sven22 Don't know about Anahiem having space either...unless Lindholm is out long enough for them to clear cap space.

I'd agree with this, in the aggregate. But I'd caution anyone against thinking he'd be some sort of revelation for our D corps. He's good, for sure somewhat better than say Staal....but wouldn't want to see him here long-term....Heck, I'd do a deal w/FL: We don't sign him so you can, BUT you have to agree to deport Gudas, with fireworks shoved up his tail-pipe. |

Gostisbehere has not been awful this year. He had a period of a week or two where his game dropped off defensively. Otherwise he has been a solid player.
