All these Russians getting waived because they’re too busy powdering their noses.

Anyways...i was wrong about Hughes. He just has poop to play with and as much as i like Ruff, he’s yet another HC in NJ that makes head-scratching lineups.

I’m willing to bet you put Hughes on another team with line mates that can capitalize on his chances and keep up with him he’d explode offensively.

I still believe this team needs 2 top-6 FWs and one solid veteran top-pair Dman at least to compete. Not even going to think about being an annual playoff contender until then.

They’re going to waste Blackwood, Hughes, and Nico’s prime years surrounding them with garbage.

Losing is infectious, better get it fixed fast. Or the few good players we have will either get used to it or want out.

Unless the current kids take a big step, or new kids come in blazing.. we’re going to be another fringe team, unless we add a good piece or 2.
It’s the year after that I expect to be a playoff team, and the year after that I expect to contend.

I agree with this timeline. Depending what happens in the offseason and what we add, next season i expect to be a bubble team but miss in the end most likely unless the kids explode. Two seasons from now is when i expect to be a wild card team or better

I think it depends on what happens in the offseason. We add a legit top 6 winger + top 4 D I think we'll at least be in the race. Hell, even a functioning PP could take us pretty close.

I guess this is all a work in progress, but the offense drying up to sure up the defensive structure isn't super promising. Maybe they are all worried about getting the system worked out but basically all creativity has been stifled this game. It's not like we've held the Caps to minimal shots either though. Could be one of those things where we see it pay off multiple games down the line but you can't really win games like this.

I think this is just one of those off games offensively, and it doesn't help that we're playing the caps. One of Smiths worst games of the season, Bratt has had numerous pucks bounce off his stick, but we are bad in general against heavy, structured teams so we have to figure out how to play against them.

I admit I could just be reading too much into it. The ice seems like it's been poop tonight too which would explain no passes connecting.

In relation to Smith (and a lot of the new kids) this season is just awful. Too many games too close together. Fewer practices and a ton of ice time.

LeBrun also said his gut feeling is there wont be an extension and Palms will be traded. Im fine either way

Boston, NYI, Toronto, Edmonton, Colorado, and Pittsburgh have all expressed interest in him

It's a negotiating tactic. Let them know you're trying to keep the player they want so they up what they're giving. Hard to believe they are going to give him a big extension that he'd be looking for.

I’m fine either way too; But if there is a great return to be had, you have to trade him. Similar to the Coleman situation. Maybe try to circle back in the off-season.

We can never beat the caps so looks like they have swept all 8 games

We wouldn't want the team to play too well and get a much worse draft pick.

So where does everybody think he's getting traded to?

If he is traded I think it's either the isles or will be a team we didn't expect

My most logical guesses would be the isles or boston

Without winning the lottery, we could theoretically pick anywhere between 3 and 13. I’m ok with sticking at 6 if that’s what happens. We want a winning culture, but I just feel like we’re going to be okay. It’s a short compressed season, the perfect kind to have a losing record and regroup for next year. I’m pretty excited about potentially seeing Mercer, Holtz, Foote, and other guys I can’t remember. If not them, then excited for a healthy Hischier, another year stronger Hughes and the rest of this year’s kids.

With how our team is now we don't need to rush kids anymore, which is great. So I think Holtz and Mercer are multiple years out. Will be interesting to see how Foote progresses having a season of professional hockey under his belt.

Will be shocked if Mercer isn't with us next year, he already plays such a smart game. Outside of players that went straight to the NHL, I'd say he's our best prospect since Parise.

I think a lot of teams will be after him, he's probably the best scoring winger available and can play in different roles.

Hughes should have like 10 points today.
