So a lot of our cap space issue this year is due to performance bonuses from the kids. Who's bonuses are actually attainable this year? - MeltingPlastic
Shattenkirks hit drops from 6 million to 1.5
Hanks drops from 5.5 to 1.5
Spooner 300k gone
We’re literally adding 9 million to our cap next year just from the buyouts dropping. Smiths 4.5 will also be coming off the books. |

Serious question and not trying to start an argument here, we’re projected to be wayyy under the cap next year even after we sign all our guys. I think we both agree going out and making a big splash would be dumb bc eventually these ELC’s will be expiring. So if we have the cap space, why not eat some salary to get a better return? If eating salary prevented us from signing someone I get it, but it’s not going to. - nyrangers9479
I just don't see how he has any value at this point. He hasn't played any hockey at all for 2 months. Who is going to give up anything worthwhile at this point. The league knows the Rangers are buying him out. They will just wait. It's the smartest thing for all parties. |

I agree with Bean Dip here. IMO, I don't think the Rangers should be liberal in cap use, just because it's not becoming a grave issue. I think making sensible decision that allow for flexibility during development years allows the Rangers to fill in gaps within the roster down the line to be a contender. Also, it allows for flexibility for future contracts or trades if some of the prospects don't pan out as intended. I think future thinking is best during the rebuild. My 2 cents. - NYRCeph

Oh there's definitely enough money to go around and they're in a great place to use it.
Maybe my point isn't translating well over text. I agree, use some of it in an ADA trade if it's going to enhance the return, especially if we get an impact player for next year. Do not use it if it's just to trade ADA. |

I mostly agree with you but Florida became a wild card in this situation. They lost Ekblad and they need a stop gap. I still doubt he gets moved but who knows? |

yeah, and Buchnevich gets a new deal
Shesterkin gets a new deal
Chytil get a new deal
Lindgren gets a new deal
we still have all the bonus problems with the ELC contracts and will be adding another one in Lundkvist
it's stupid to waste cap money for absolutely no reason |

The biggest thing is how does any team know what the hell he has been doing? The rangers haven't let him play any hockey at all. Is he even in game shape? Will a team give up any real assets for a player they can't count on to play right away. Also the cap hit next year is huge. Teams know he will be a UFA once he is bought out. I just don't see it happening. If he was playing in the AHL during this time, then that's a different story. |

One of Chytil or Buch will not be here next year. I doubt highly Lindgren Buch and Shesty add up to the 13.5 we’re saving in space next year. Getting a better pick or prospect isn’t for no reason. |

It truly is uncanny what draft # you have dictates what you command on the market to an extent. I guess the potential is something each team has to gauge with their own metrics. |

This is a contending team, we just need a 3C. I don’t know where else we can add someone to make this team better. Panarin Kreider Kakko Laf Buch Kravtsov as our top 9 wings, who’s getting the bump to make that better? Trouba Miller Fox Lindgren top 4 D, hows that getting better? We upgrading over Shesty? Still have Gauthier Rooney Barron etc for a 4th line. I don’t get what we’re saving cap space for |

even if they go into season with cap space, you don't think trades can happen during the season?

I really don't think there's a wrong decision on this. The key will be if there's a worthy trade this season to make it come to fruition. |

RHD vs LHD. One coming off a 60 pt season the other got waived bc how terrible he’s been. Your right, I don’t know why either. |

Love it. It keeps the evidence flowing that Mike Keenan was absolutely Nuts. - NYRCeph
I saw Kypreos tell a story that him and Healy were playing checkers quietly, back of the plane, for no reason, Keenan got up, walked to the back, looked at them both, smacked their checkers all over the place and walked back to his seat without saying a word
