The US is considering a joint boycott of the Winter Olympics. Here's the absolutely trustworthy source.

after covid, the riots/protests, and the election......I don't watch the news. I can't tell you the mental vacation that results from being away from any of those biased spun shows.
You won't miss it.....it's all fear mongering. Amazingly the world has not ended...... |

I doubt Stanbo did that trade unilaterally, Hockey Ops must have decided Joki didn't have enough upside to warrant keeping him and decided to take the chance on a young forward with enough skill playing in a bad organization. It will probably end up being a give nothing much and get back nothing much trade. - RickJ
Again I am not giving up on Nylander....if he can be a poor man's Versteeg it's a win in my book. |

Carey Price won't play in the upcoming games with Toronto. No big loss, as the Best Goalie in the World sports a .903 save percentage on the season. |

But how much money did he make his owners by having cheap competitive teams that were at least in the mix...
Hockey is an attendance driven sport in terms of revenue. Success is typically (not always but typically) predicted by having more shot attempts at evens then the other team.
Picking up players who are on the ice for more shots for than against over the course of their career is probably a good idea when comparing like dollars and other stats.
Tampa is well coached, has a deep talent pool and both yearly Norris and MVP level players and complimentary players around them. Not dissimilar to when the Hawks were very good, when the wings were very good and when the Kings were very good.
Gambling is big money and that a lot of people use for distraction. Not especially surprising.

Theo also loved to outbid people in his drafts until they took that gray area away from him.
Did Beane make a lot of money for the As? I honestly don't know.
If I were an owner of a hockey team I would want a hockey opps department that has a TON of boots on the ground so what they see/read on paper matches what they see in PERSON. Ie....I am not 100% all against advanced analytics but more so....60-70% eye test. Respect the computer numbers but don't risk your job on them.
I mean what stat/philosphy that came from PECOTA is relevant in hockey? What is the equivalent of taking pitches, walks, working pitchers to get into bullpens and so on translates to hockey?
You stated more shots for but I just don't see how that works long term in hockey. Game is too fast, too many matchups you can dictate with line changes to completely change those outcomes.
To Beane's philosphy, he sacrificed defense as Hattenberg was astrocious, so if you built a hockey team that was way geared towards shots for than shots against are you willing to go cheap at goalie?
I just don't see it....sorry.

I started the signing Danault idea and did have him at 1C. This was prefaced by the thought that Toews won't be back.
Centers next season without Danault assuming Soderberg won't be back.
Dach
Strome
Suter/Kurashev

With Danault and trading Strome for a piece.

Can flip Dach and Danault if Kirby is up to it.
Which option would you rather see next season? - boilermaker100
Why would you pursue Danault vs what other options could/will be out there?
Honest question...if Danault wasn't an ex Hawk prospect would be even having this conversation?
I just don't get the love affair for a guy who can't hold Bolland's jock.

Best option is no high priced UFA's until further notice. Low price filler types they can flip are fine. |

Still would consider Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, even though he will be expensive. They would have the cap room for him next year, but not sure about the cap after that. 2022 especially could be tight.

If I had to gamble, I would put money on the Hawks not spending much more than they did on Janmark this year for FA's for at least next year, if not possibly one more. |

I am really beginning to wonder if Zadorov is the guy who just waltzed to the NHL without ever having to put in a TON of work because of his size, and decent skill.....only to over time have his warts exposed.......Colorado selling high on him and the more I do watch him the more I agree......it's alarming. I truly hope after this season, he rebounds but I do catch him from time to time making off handed comments about getting "paid" so he may be likely in it for himself and if so.....Bowman needs to weed that out fast.
I'd rather see them play a kid, get him more experience then roll out a veteran who is regressing, refuses to adjust, and his value just continues to plummet.
I havent' checked up on the expansion rules but I would really hope they flip Dehaan by next Monday unless they HAVE to keep him to expose him....and then even then...I am concerned Seattle could pass on him. - SteveRain
They could trade deHaan since Bowey fills the expansion draft requirement. It seems like they would have to retain half of his salary to get anything right now in a trade.
Like you, I also think Seattle could pass on him - I wonder if we are seeing a little less of Subban and Carlsson in games in the hope that they might get overlooked by Seattle and deHaan would get taken instead.

Danault fits Stan's MO. Ex-Hawk and a former 1st round draft choice. You heard it here first. LOL. |

Wennberg - Chunk always like lowery would love the hawks to sign him in the offseason. Be good 3rd line center with sandpaper and phyiscallity to his game two things hawks are missing. But i think he most likely goes to a contender.

Except, IMO, the Hawks don't need a 3C, with Suter, Kurashev and Barratt in a couple of years filling that slot. Maybe Reichel makes the leap to the NHL in the next year or two and grants my wish for the other 1 or 2C beside Dach. |

I'm with you, just keep drafting and developing and signing European free agents. No need to spend seven and a half million dollars on a former number one overall picked that maxed out at 50 some points |
