I right now I really like what he has brought to this team, solid defense and a physical edge. - jd250
He certainly has made a good account for himself:He doesn’t look out of place. Like others have stated, he just has to play a simple game, and not run around out of control looking for big hits taking himself out of position. |

I think JvR is playing very well, even with the pointless streak. He looks dangerous every time he’s on the ice. - SuperSchennBros
Yes, however last night he was dangerous only to the Flyers with his blown defensive coverages. I don't want him matched up against the Bruins top line tonight if AV can help it.

He’s a huge guy. Long strides, long reach. He’s a better skater than Kjell Samuellson. And Kjell had a heck of a career for himself as a stay at home defenseman. |

He’s played sheltered minutes, but he’s played fairly well. If he uses his size and plays positionally maybe he can carve his way into being a third pairing guy. At this point you’d have to sign on for that.
That was some right hand he hit Johnston with. I believe he may have broke his jaw. - PLindbergh31
I missed the game vs the Isles and only heard about that fight with Johnston when Jonesy was talking about it for last night's broadcast.
I watched it on line. Holy crap. I've been very happy with what Sam has brought to the D and team. It's an element we've needed IMO. |

Everyone is rooting for him. Including me. Like I’ve always said, my issue was never with Morin the player/person. It was with Holmgren drafting him with the #11th pick.
With all Morin has been through with two major knee injuries, he deserves it. He’s worked his ass off to make it back to the NHL - PLindbergh31

If he keeps this play up the rest of the season, I think he'll have a place on the team.
As you say, it's always about being smart and not overly aggressive. |

Why would we do this? - SuperSchennBros
win-win.
With the 4.5 freed and Amac's salary coming off and perhaps other salary freed, we could perhaps get some one with greater bang for the buck.
Or, if we can't, we would likely draft higher.

Why? If the Flyers can get a player that exceeds what they have on their roster and what they think they have in their system, why not do it. I will sell potential for actual any day of the week, especially when its not on a rental basis.

Bordertown sucked. We gave up after 3 episodes.
Now we are watching El Marginal from Argentina. It's great so far. |

I’ve seen Seth Jones play many times and he always looks impressive but by the numbers, how good is he really? - SuperSchennBros
https://jfresh.substack.c...seth-jones-actually-elite
He's not Victor Hedman, or Chris Pronger... but he excels at the things that the Flyers desperately need... which is somebody who is as great between the bluelines and provides a strong net-front presence -- right-handed and can anchor a d-pairing.
Not sure if that's worth $9M/AAV or whatever's he'd get on the open market, but in a vaccuum, he'd be the guy to add. And there's always the outside chance that he grows even further in a different environment (aka not under Torts). |

I would like the Flyers to emulate the Lightning of last year. Add physicality while keeping the talent level. So if that meant trading Ghost or JVR for more physical players I would mostly be cool with that. Obviously, it depends on who they add. If they add a Jody Shelley type that would be a negative. If they added a Scott Hartnell type I would be cool with that.
I am fine with addressing defense after the ED.

That's in your imagination. Sam can play a hard game and make the opposition uncomfortable and wary, but the days of intimidation as deterrent are over.
Boston was plenty physical w/ the Flyers all night. Braun got absolutely smoked. Everybody just kept playing, because of the score and the stakes.
When Sam asked Frederic to dance, the latter simply declined because there was nothing to gain.
Every time I see some big young buck trying too hard to be tough, it always reminds me of 24/7 and Tom Sestito. Rangers weren't intimidated at all, they were laughing at him. |

The Flyers definitely played a more physical game vs the bruins than they had previously. At least matching the intensity. No NHL team will be outright intimidated nowadays, but the physical play of Morin has helped IMO.

While I generally agree with you, I think a lot of folks noticed when Morin dropped Johnston on one punch. Johnston is a tough dude.
Morin definitely has a physical effect on the game. Too what degree that effects the other team I do not know.

Your first paragraph is just not true. Just because the NHL has worked to rid the game of fighting to suggest that there’s no longer physical intimidation in the game is simply not the the case. Ask ANY player or ex player and they will simply not agree with your statement.

There's a difference in being wary of going into a board battle w/ Shea Weber and fear of being dragged into a fight for 'taking liberties'. The latter is what OP was talking about. Nobody has to answer the bell anymore. |

Are you okay with Fletcher trading part of the future "core" in an attempt to win now? - MJL
Who do you consider future core? I dont know that I see many of our players being more than middle 6 and 2nd pairing potential. Farabee Frost Coots York Provy Hart might be my only true untouchables. Would I trade anyone else in the RIGHT deal? Probably. |

The failure of the Flyers and this path that was started by the Hextall regime simply doesn’t fit certain peoples narrative about where this team is Truly at and how they actually get to that next level. What else can they do but argue that the Flyers are on the right path and good times are just around the corner....it’s laughable really to think this core with the current young group will magically develop into a contender without some serious changes. |

This is absolutely a true observation, the Flyers have as a team been more physical lately, and it coincides with Morin entering the lineup on a nightly basis. I think there is at least some evidence to support the idea that his personality and style is starting to rub off on the other players.

I'll take Provorov and Seth Jones for the next 12 years as a set it and forget it top pairing. Arguments on how good Seth is are up for debate but hes definitely really good and would definitely be an elite pairing. |
