Benning's plan is too confuse the other GM's it seems.

Players with his skill set will still see 3-4m on 3-5 year deals. Pearson is probably in the upper tier of his level and they will see closer to 3.75 even with a flat cap.

I feel if we are looking to compete in 2 years, we have talent that can replace him next season, and surpass him in 2 years for cheaper.

Tough to say, I'm not confident we'll see many contracts with that length of term for this crop of UFA's. Granlund is someone that comes to mind that has a better track record points-wise, younger, and still was squeezed for a 1 year deal... its going to be a weird era until revenues catch up for some teams so I don't really know what market value will be, but seemed worthwhile to wait and see

This deal smells like Sven Baertschi’s 3 year $10m all over again. Let’s hope he lasts more than one year before being demoted.
