I would think all of that would be teachable. Shouldn't one be able to learn how to fire a quick/accurate shot. It's a physical skill that one should at least be able to improve on if not master through muscle memory (playing a musical instrument). I would think it would be more difficult to learn hockey IQ/situation recognition/positioning (writing music). Yes you can be shown on a video (or even in practice) what to do during various situations, but it is more abstract and you have to make decisions in real time.

You can see most likely one of our next good prospects, W Kaizer, on ESPN2, or stream fubol tonight. The regional championships tonight then final April 10.

Kaiser probably stays a collegiate one more season..He just recently played solid an entire game 60 minutes in a several period OT game.

It's a matter of "want". It's fun to score goals and play offense, it's not as much fun to back check and get in the way of shots.

I get what you were saying but more players work on their shot or stick handling than they do on the defensive part of the game because its the fun part. That's all i was getting at.

There’s nothing stupid about being respectful. I’m sure if you or I were native we wouldn’t be too happy to see that stupid stereotypical caricature of the MLB Cleveland Indian logo, or some of the other teams logos. Not being a minority I have no idea how it feels for my race to be classified as a mascot? But if a minority group says it’s insulting don’t you think it’s best we take their word it is and make a change?

One of my daughters got a job twelve years ago teaching at a Native community 1000 miles north of Toronto on the west side of James bay in a community called Kasketchewan or ‘Kash’. The only way in to the community is to fly in or to take a winter snow road. My daughter was aghast (another cool word Mo) at the Blackhawk logo. However when she went there she was surprised to find all the sports teams in the community, hockey and baseball all used the Hawk logo on different color sweaters. When she enquired why they didn’t find it offensive she was told the depiction represented a dignified and proud depiction to the natives. This changed my daughter’s perspective about the logo. It also doesn’t hurt that Blackhawk management reached out to the local native community to get their blessing to continue to use the logo.

Great story and thank you for sharing. Always curious how it is viewed in the community vs what we see/read. Obviously it's a brand the Hawks have built, legacy, etc but I do agree they are doing the right thing and giving back/involving the native american community and keeping them engaged.

As far as the Hawks pending trade, taking back a bad deal so hopefully they also get a pick or prospect in addition to stillman.

Not sure you can teach certain hockey skills, Bobby Hull can teach me how to take a slap shot all day long and I still wouldn’t be able to shoot the puck like him. Pirri has a great shot, unfortunately that’s his only skill, as his skating leaves a lot to be desired, and his allergy to defense hurts his stock as well.

Sure, but you could certainly notably improve your effectiveness (maybe not at 65, ha!) by simple repetition (under proper coaching). I would think it harder to learn how to recognize/process implement solid defense. I have no expertise here, just my understanding of skills development vs situational thinking.

Just wondering about the purchase of Rockford Ice hogs, do you think that the team will be renamed, and then (as some other AHL teams have the NHL team name) will this name be used for the Chicago NHL franchise? Is there any insight on what kind of pressure there is to change the name/logo of the team, especially since United airlines has gotten stupid and is now playing political games.

Haven't seen much on the possibility of renaming the AHL team from the IceHogs but we shall see over time. My guess is they keep the name to honor the tradition of the Rockford franchise.

Then again, consistent branding might be something the parent organization is interested in and perhaps as a way to test whether a new name for the IceHogs (i.e. Hawks or IceHawks) grows any legs if they ever change their own name.

Good Morning Theo. Too bad Pirri has a skating deficiency and can’t or won’t play defense, but he can sure shoot the puck. Sell high! Also if I was a betting man, I would bet that Soderberg will not be a Blackhawk after this Monday.

Interestingly, Pirri's goals this season (5 in Rockford) all resulted from when he was stationary and someone fed him the puck. Scoring while in motion may not be a strength compared to his blazing slapper.
