Borgstrom clearly the focus of that deal. Former #1 pick (23rd overall) in 2016. A natural center with good size (6'3" 200 pounds).
He's been tabbed with being inconsistent since being drafted but has worked harder at improving in his own end. High ceiling offensively, at least that was his M.O. on draft day and since then. - Theo Fox
Q liked him so much that he told him to save the airfare and stay in Helsinki and play with his buddies over there. |

JFC I hope they don’t get Elvis Merzlikins. I can hear it now, Foley saying Elvis has left the building after turd teen turdy tree and he and Edzo giggling about it for years. - paulr
That would be funny the first time...not so funny 3 dozen or so times after |

Hawks get a big center in the deal. Does this mean Strome may be on the market? |

I can't see it happening for expansion reasons alone. Unless they move him again to a team in need of goaltending. |

Possibly. But maybe insurance at center since there isn't any news on Toews? |

HAHAHAHAHA....no $hit
I like the trade.....goes back to all of our discussions in a previous thread.
They dealt a guy they waived and a D man they likely felt they didn't have a spot for
AND
Turned it into a bad contract (who cares), a young D man to replace Carlsson for depth, a 7tgh round pick, and an ex 1st round pick I am guessing some scout in Europe has good reports on that they can feel can be valuable
I like it.....
I fully expect Florida to make a decent deal after moving the cap space and plugging whatever hole Q is asking for to compete against TB and/or Car in 7 game series......

with how hard it is to dump salary this year connely signed for 2 more years at 3.5 seems like a bad return for Borgstrom? I would have thought maybe a 3-4 rounder included. if he only had 1 year I would think its a ok return. |

Connolly is slow but can shoot and goes to the net. Something this team needs. |

Trade completed
Brett Connolly, Riley Stillman and Henrik Borgstrom plus a 7th Rd pick in exchange for Lucas Carlsson and Lucas Wallmark.
Connolly has 2 more yrs at $3.5M AAV. Florida freeing up cap space as part of this. Hawks using their cap space to net 2 young players - NamedSources
Well enough gave up a player who seemingly was past up by others and wallmark who wasn’t even playing just hoping the new additions don’t block any young players in development already |

Florida knows that if you trade for a Hawks Dman you play for the cup. Rutta, Daley, Kempny, .... |

Also a right hand shot, which the Hawks are lacking. |

On what grounds? These are all deck chairs. The Hawks got a lottery ticket for taking on some cap space that they had. This is a very minor trade. |

U skipped over Connolly, he was 6th overall in the 2010 draft and played for the Caps the year they won the Cup. Not sure what's happened with him but not playing much this year in Florida. He probably frees up Stan to move Soderburg or Janmark or both for picks.

goto the net yes, slow No. we won the hino deal I guess but loss this one Big Connely would make $1 mil per year next year if he was a UFA so we are taking on 2.5 mil extra for 2 more years.

With hino and Connelly coming they replace janmark and Soderbergh maybe to Toronto might be a fit for those 2. |

Skating has been his biggest issue at every level so i'm not sure how he isn't slow. I don't see how they lost this trade big time. Because some internet message board said so? |

lin a flat cap era getting out of a player that is being scratched 1/2 the time and has 2G and 2A in 21 games that is being paid like a 2/3 liner but playing like the 13th forward. look at all the players that are getting waived and no one is grabing any of them?

I was saying we need players that goto the NET (YES) but we do not need players that are slow. we are not a fast team to start with.

or carpenter
I have no issue with the trade. I don't see a downside to it as this point....Hawks aren't contending this year.

they aren't winning the cup this year.
When was the last time Walmark played a game? THey have the cap room, and they got another younger D man, and a guy I am willing to bet they scouted HEAVILY and felt hes find a role the Hawks feel they can use at the NHL level.
Not like they dealt some emerging younger D man and/or F and got this back....what did they really give up? |
