Ya 7th rounders - total garbage. Just ask the teams who drafted Zetterburg, Hornqvist and Pavelski. They never won nothing. - RickJ
Ya but we got Kyle Beach in the 1st round |

I get it, no one really
knows to much about this prospect and the RFA?

That's pretty high praise, time will tell - BetweenTheDots
He also had been targeting Runblad since he put up 70 pts in AHL and that he was after the one forward from DET all season, both were out of the league after the year with the hawks.

As with the Vinny trade, why would anyone be upset with this trade.
All that was talked about was that Stan had cap space to take on players. Have any one complaining ever seen the guy from Finland play? I haven't. So I can't say he's going to be great, or even good. But the last few guys Hawks scouts in Europe had advised to trade for or sign turned out not terrible.
And the Ejdsell thing, really, after everything else Stan stole from them in that trade, that's the focus??? How do you know that Stan and Kelly didn't think Ejdsell was the throw in, not important part of that trade??? Because that's how it ended up.
Jeez this board is insane sometimes. - vabeachbear
Connolly can probably be moved as well. Not like he is a bum or a guy with no value because he is owed 5 mil for the next 4 years. The Panthers needed to clear space. Hawks got some assets back. Its Wirtz's money. None of us should care!
Some team might come looking for a bottom 6 forward with playoff experience. Now Stan has on of those.

Yea but the Hawks gave up nothing, nothing for 2 young players
Worse case scenario this is a nothing for nothing trade
Honestly Bowman has been pretty good with forwards, 5th round pick for Kubs are you (frank)ing kidding me |

Maybe Connolly gets moved for a 3rd or 4th and Stan eats half the salary cap hit..... up until this year he was a really solid 3rd line forward. Ryan Hartman netted us a 1st rounder.
Look what we gave up for Weise and Fleischman....
I wouldn't be surprised if Soderberg is moved too for a pick or prospect. |

So we trade 2 players that really aren't a part of the Hawks future, take on kind of expensive player and 2 young players, i don't understand how you lose a trade when you give away nothing for something - BetweenTheDots
everything I have read the most important thing in the league is cap space. in connley last year. Lankinin, subban, Boquist, Dach, strome, kubalik murph and kalynuk all will need new contracts, his boyout saves $1 mil over buring him but you get hit the next year with 1.2. that is when Teows and kane and keith come off that year. then the following year seabs come off

I wouldn’t mind seeing Connolly in for Carpenter, it wouldn’t hurt. Connolly scored 22 goals two years ago and 19 in a shortened season last year. If we can flip him again it wouldn’t be bad either. This trade is really all about Borgstrom and maybe Stillman. |

Hawks lose Smith, and $1 mil. retained for Saad so that is $4.25 mil. Seabs if the Hawks decide to sign a FA or take on another bad contract can put Seabs on LTIR before the season, that is another $6 mil. plus. Plus if Shaw and Toews don't play that is another $14 mil. I don't think the Hawks have to worry about the salary cap next year.
Look at it this way, Connelly replaces Janmark's salary. |

if you are Seattle who do you take from the hawks?
dehan 4.5
Connely 2 x 3.5
carpenter $1
Subban $850K
Stilman RFA
or who ever we do not protect of Nylander, Hagel, Kampf or Borgstrom? we can only do 3 of the 4? unless teows does not come back or waves
probably be which ever forward we expose or Subban. the others would take sweetners is my guess.
also of the 4 who gets exposed? my guess is kampf. - kmw4631
Does Seattle have to take someone from the roster of unprotected players? |

Don't forget the cap hit the Hawks have with Connolly. He has two more years after this one. Florida's gain in the deal was the cap space. Whether or not they overpaid to gain the cap space remains to be seen. |

I simply love the trade.
Corey Stillman's son is "only" 6' 1" 200 pounds and this season pounded the Blackhawks in the one look-see game he played against them.
He is is smart tough and not a finished product.
Niki Borgström a big true centre, still developing, PERIOD.
He has a really good lightning release, was a late grower, is good in the dot.
I always thought it was odd on how the billed his as their next big Finnish centre, but then sort of threw his into the wing and that stopped the forward progress and the fact he has so little progress and was lost when it came to defense end assignments, and if he is your future centre, he has to spend time at home learning.
Florida had both the Jets seventh and their own, so I am curious which it be but cap friendly has it as the Florida pick...thius is also a great draft to have a late pick IF your scouting staffs did their homework two junior seasons back...
I just walked in the door. So we have Montreals and Florida's in the 7th.
If you texted me and told me we trade the two Lucas' for this I would have told you were BSing me...
I think it is SOMETHING! |

I'm not trying to be insulting here, but who knows more about the Hawks cap, you or Stan? I'm sure they went through all of the scenarios before making this trade.
I'll reiterate that this is basically a nothing trade. The Hawks get a former 1st rounder who they think highly of, plus a defensive defenseman and a Connolly (who I know very little about) in return for taking on some cap space and two non-roster players. |

Yes, 7th rounders can occasionally make it to the NHL. Even rarer, they turn into notable players. The 7th rounder is a throw-in. Basically a non-entity. |

Kurashev as well for a new contract. beyond teams being Broke financially most teams as up agaainst the cap so I thought we could get more taking a 3 year contract. 2 year I would probably be ok with. When the TDL is done look what the cost to take on term either or a good player or bad and I think you will get good players for nothing and have to pay heavily to get underacheiving players with Term off your books. A 23 year old prospect that we have to protect in the EXP draft and washed out of the NHL does not sound like paying heavily, I hope im wrong. he is 2-3 years removed from a good season.

Hawks 7F protected might be Toews, Kane, Cat, Hagel, Strome, Kampf, Nylander. This means the 2 new guys just obtained will be exposed.
My prediction is that Seattle will take Connolly who has Cup winning experience, reasonable cap hit, and can put up 15-20 goals. |
