Well it says Biech joined as video and analytics guy. Chris Gear as an Asst. GM as a cap guru for them.
I don't know how much say but I'm sure Jim says "I'd like to do this, can we do it?" Gear probably tells him yes or no. - manvanfan
Ya, I honestly have no idea. Maybe Jim gives them the number they want to sign him for and the cap guys shift the numbers around to front/back load things and add in signing bonuses?
Would be interesting to get an article from one of those guys explaining what they actually do.
Either way, their cap guru doesn't seem to be that big of a guru |

Imagine being the cap guru of TB. They don't have 23M in cap space, they have 10M in excess cap. |

Does the cap guru of Tampa also get a Stanley Cup ring?
Tampa has problems for sure, but they also have players most teams would trade for. They'll lose good guys because of the cap squeezing them, but Vancouver can't bring in good guys because of the backlog of underachieving and bad contracts. |

The New Jersey Devils have placed Nikita Gusev on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a contract termination, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Notably, having his contract terminated tomorrow would give him time to sign a new deal (likely at a much lower salary) with another NHL team and be eligible for the playoffs. When the termination goes through, he will be an unrestricted free agent.
------------
This is one area where Jim just falls extremely short of. Same with his "I don't think I'll be very busy at the TDL because of the human element."
No one cares about the human element. Trade them (frank)ers. |

Goes back to his comments about the pandemic cap last year, and signing Pearson this year with the market/Pears having a down year because of the short season... seems like there's something that impacts the whole league that he uses as an excuse for the specific team.
The whole league dealt with the lower cap, the whole league dealt with a weird offseason, the whole league dealt with the pandemic. It's not an excuse just for you |

I 100% agree with Jim. He shouldn’t make any trades. I hate the Pearson signing but I’m with him on this. A 4th round pick isnt worth (frank)ing over the players |

Well they had to trade away Miller. No one claimed Johnson because he isn't living up to his contract. Before they went on a roll last season, they talked about guys not living up to their contracts.
How all is forgotten with a ring.
Shouldn't forgot that TB also got to pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd in almost consecutive years while Van was competing for a Cup. |

Buyer's market. Still letting guys like Sutter go for nothing after paying him twice as what he is worth for 4 years. I could care less. |

You care about the human aspect.
It is a pathetic excuse in a billion dollar industry.
You might need a soothing latte to help you being overcome with emotion. |

The Flames and Canucks should forfeit the rest of the season they are both in the lottery mix - FlamesFan1230
Hey, if Montreal keeps losing, playoffs aren't really that far fetched. Can Vancouver win 4 more games from here till the end of the season? With 19 games left, it could be possible. |

Bowen Byram has been added to the NHL's COVID Protocol list. The #avs called off their morning skate in Anaheim today as a precaution.

I care a bit about it. If we had a decent trade chip I’d be singing a different tune. But we don’t. Pearson was the only decent asset we had to sell. |

As long as he doesn't play another game in a Canucks jersey. I will be fine with that. Otherwise GM Jim and Coach Green can get the Gerrard Gallant treatment. |

They had to trade him and got a 1st for it. Of the contracts the Canucks want to trade away to get out of their cap jam, do you think any of them would fetch anything at all?
Just saying Tampa's cap situation is worse while strictly looking at dollars, but they have players they can shed that have value to them. They're also in a position where trading a 2nd or a 1st to get rid of a contract or two isn't going to hurt them.
Gourde/Palat/McDonagh will probably get taken in the expansion saving 5+ mil, then trading a 1st to get rid of Johnson saves them the extra 5. If they wanted to be ballsy they could trade Stamkos or Point and get a haul to save money instead. |

I don’t think anyone had any trade value once the whole team had Covid so near the TDL.
I agree it would also be cruel to trade players at this time.
But regardless, no one was buying.
So. People can prefer we would have traded players for picks all you want, but it wasn’t a possibility. |

Even if they get rid of 10M. That leaves them with 6.5M in cap space to sign 8-11 players.
They tried to trade Johnson and a 1st wasn't enough to get rid of him.
Nothing that can't be fixed but the likelihood of them being a team of superstars next season is a bit unlikely. They may be the new Boston. Very high top end with struggles in the bottom.
Coleman and Goodrow after their cup wins will want to get paid.
I doubt any teams are going to be offer first round picks unless it's for Brayden Point. |

This is why when JB said "we are going to wait and see" a few weeks ago. He should have said, come and get them. We will take anything for anyone. |
