it's taken the sabres five plus years to begin to restock what he burned to the ground...however, that's what ownership wanted
- Michael Pachla

Kind of

The ownership wanted a winner fast,
BUT

-GMTM couldn’t have screwed up the defense more if he tried- literally EVERY move he made was a failure, including the McNabb for Fasching trade

AND

-his trading of so many picks & POOR DRAFTS left us in quite the hole to fix his mistakes

Interesting comments about money and could Bales be a key to keeping Ullmark.

With just what's remaining on the roster, not factoring in the draft, expansion draft, and assuming Quinn and Peterka need another year, how does this forward lineup work:

Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart
Olofsson - Cozens - Ruotsalainen
Asplund - Mittelstadt - Thompson
Bjork - Girgensons - Okposo
Eakin (extra)

- kingcong39

Looks about right
But is Eichel gonna sign up for that?
Gonna be another finish where we are picking top10, maybe top5

“We said all along we want Linus to be a Buffalo Sabre, and we really feel good about where his game is at,” Adams said during his post-deadline via news conference with reporters. “We’ve had great conversations. Been ongoing. Continue to talk right now. I’ve spent time with Linus just one-on-one having conversations about philosophically where we’re at and where we’re looking to get to and what he’s looking for. That’s my style.

"I think that’s an important relationship to have with your players. It’s not about dollars and cents. It’s more about vision and where are we headed and why. We’ve had those conversations and we’ll continue to work at it, but priority for us is absolutely to sign Linus and he and his agent both know that.”

Thx.

Sounds promising. They better find a competent backup this time.

Needlessly spent money wasn’t your original point
It was about “risk”
But there was none

And we don’t know of it would’ve been needlessly spent $$$ or not
If he would’ve worked out, then it wouldn’t have been needlessly spent if we signed him
Sure, we could technically still sign him as a UFA:
-if he gets to UFA
-and if he’d consider us
-but now if becomes an actual risk bc we don’t know if he will be a good fit or not bc we didn’t claim him

So would spending the extra $$$ be worth it?
Imo, yes. Bc we really need to add offensive talent to our team.
An again- there was no “risk” in doing so
Just the possibility of MAYBE wasting what amounts to be pocket change for our billionaire owners
I care more about this team getting better than their wallet though

For those who disagree- that’s fine
Agree to disagree
My opinion shouldn’t bother you

- jdfitz77

Your opinion doesn’t bother me, at all. You seemed to try to portray a playoff team signing him as a FA at 25% of the cost it would’ve been to claim him as proof the Sabres should’ve claimed him. I understand that you have to back up your original stance that Buffalo should’ve claimed him off waivers. Yes, It only would’ve been one million dollars, but something about him made all teams that had the cap space (FL included) also pass on spending that million.

With the Sabres cap situation, it never made an ounce of sense.

Feels like it's forcing 5 bottom 6 LW's into the lineup. It's early, of course.
- Lunaion

Olofsson, Asplund, Girgensons, Bjork, and...?

They need a Center for the 4th line and Girgensons is the best candidate I could think of on their roster as there's no way in hell I'm putting Eakin out there anymore.

R2. Need to see more of him and Bjork to form an opinion. Just feels a little unbalanced right now. Maybe Asplund is the 4C. Lot of things have to play out.

All my original point (days ago) was that we should take a chance on an offensively talented player bc we need offensive help

And there was no risk to us doing so
If he worked out well, we could extend him
If not, we let him walk & it’s no big deal

So yeah, for me it made sense

I don’t really care what other teams did or didn’t do
But many didn’t have the Cap flexibility we had
And very few teams are in such desperate need of offense, so they wouldn’t necessarily be inclined to find a way to fit him for that price

Again, for our situation, i thought it makes sense

My point today was that obviously he doesn’t suck as bad as some claim, since a playoff team in Florida thinks he may be able to help

Sure, they get to see at a cheaper price than we would have
But like i showed before, we had the Cap flexibility to take a chance & see if a talented offensive player could’ve helped our crappy offense

It’s also not the end of the world
But again, it was a move i thought made sense for us at the time

Only bc you’re dead set on no rollover from next year, which wouldn’t have been much at all

Are we gonna be able to sign a free agent who could potentially bring the offense Gusev could’ve? I doubt it since we are such a mess

It was a low cost lotto ticket that made all the sense in the world for a team in such desperate need of offensive help

Based on the amount of money he left on the table, I think he'll the same amount more in the 15 games in Florida than what he'd have made with the Devils. He had a 4M salary and he played 3/4 of the games this season, giving him 3M. So with Florida's 1M, he's essentially made whole. It's a mutual favor, the Devils can save a million from a player they don't use, and they can let him play for a playoff team and he makes the exact same amount of money.

Sorry, this had little to do with your post. Just thought it was a dandy detail.

FL’s one million is prorated, so he gave up like 750k to get out of NJ

Hopefully Adams can use some of that draft capital to pry a player or 2 from a team that needs cap flexibility or might not be able to protect everyone in the expansion draft

I wonder if Harrington's ego even fits inside the KeyBank Center? His smarmy attitude comes across blatantly in his writing.

Why worry about adding offence when all you need is Kuemper in net and you win 1 to zip every game.
