i don't really think they mismanaged him, at least not contract-wise...they developed him slowly and structured his contracts based upon his performance and what they believe his ceiling is as a starter...

the team has been a trainwreck, but they have done some good things with the development of their prospects, see ullmark, olofsson, asplund, borgen, bryson, etc. etc....
