Why now, for this return, and why not try and get a pick. I just have such a hard time believing this was the absolutely best return you could obtain for him.

Brogan Rafferty was the most NHL ready defensemen and going to be in Van's top 4 this season according to Faber.

Highmore was one of the surprise highlights of the "gifted" Blackhawks playoff experience last year. But even then, he also was prone to creating scoring chances against. The guy hustles and Motte is a good comparative, though Highmore has had more chances with the Hawks than Motte was ever given, and we saw how that worked out.

You have to question though how Highmore was not able to crack the Hawks bottom six this year. This Hawks team has been overachieving on the strength of surprise goaltending. The team isn't very good beyond Kane, Debrincat and Kubalik and a couple of the kids

Gaudette sounds an awful lot like Alex Nylander without some of the elevated expectations.

Gaudette came to the Canucks after being the Hobey Baker winner in 2018. Expectations were that he would be able to contribute offensively, based on his college production. Never achieved that the Canucks and needed sheltered minutes because he isn't great defensively (not that would apply to many on the roster!).

He's made some adjustments this year. Possible he turns the corner in Chicago.

From what I heard he was asked to work on his skating as well and never really did. Always looked a little out of place out there and about a half second behind. Highmore gives us a bit more speed and looked decent vs EDM in last years PO's. The league is getting a bit smaller and speedier. Go with the Benning flow lol

Only thing I can think of is Benning may have been watching Highmore for awhile now.

Bennings track record with reclamation projects isn't great, meanwhile, his track records with draft picks are a different tale.

Pedan, Baertschi, Clendening, Francis Perron, Pouliot, Vey, Etem, Larsen.

Really liked what Bieksa had to say about this trade.

He says, you don't wear #96 in Vancouver and wearing #88 like he is Eric Lindros or something.
He then goes on to say Highmore will be a good fit for Canucks and have a few good years with them.

With Gaudette gone I think it's safe to assume that Kole Lind will be protected for the upcoming expansion draft. I am excited to see what this young guy can do. Hopefully before the end of the season we will get a glimpse. #Canucks

from the articles i have read, and the quotes I have seen, I believe Gaudette and Sutter were Symptomatic. Sutter has 2 kids and another on the way, and Gaudette has a wife he just kicked in the head. Not really a head scratcher to see which one got traded, and which one probably won't.
