I wonder what the monetary value of of a (each round) draft pick is. Right now it seems a 4th round pick is worth 25% of a $4ish million dollar player's salary for 20 games.

.25 x 20/56 x .75 x $4,000,000 - is that what players are making 75% of their normal salary this year?

Some people make charts about the value of picks.

In the summer a 2nd round pick was for about 4M in cap.

I'm not actually surprised, it would be a surprise if he did something that would make sense.

Well I said likely. The kids is 23 and already has 189 goals and 337 points. Sundin is the one to beat IMO.

I don't put too much stock into this season for Matthews' points – this division is trash. The top 4 point leaders in the NHL all play in the North

Matthews is about a PPG for his career right now. Sundin, Gilmour, and Bure are all the same ballpark.

I don't feel that way but honestly the kid is legit. I don't even care about this year's numbers, check out his other years. He did score 4 goals in his first ever game. As much as we don't like it, he was a highly touted 1st overall pick and he has delivered.

Matthews is definitely better than any player currently on the Canucks. He's legit. Not sure if he'll win them playoff series, but they have time to see that.

Probably wasn't getting much for offers on him and/or he has an NMC or NTC, so he might have only been willing to go to a couple teams.

Sometimes, getting something is better than nothing, but I am not sure, because Canucks haven't been in that position before.
