He will take the buyout and sign for a league minimum contract on a team that will be willing to take a chance on him. Think of it this way: He will be Jack Johnson for another team next season. - TommyGTrain
Remember those days!?!?!
Thank God they realized what we have. |

Prospects are a crap shoot. I’d say we did alright in restocking the pipeline wouldn’t you? - picklerick
Some of it was luck with Kakko and Laf but this is probably the deepest pipeline I’ve ever seen for the Rangers. |

The one thing about prospects, many of them, dont ever reach the heights that is expected of them. Their highest value to a franchise is as a prospect and only as a prospect. |

And others far surpass what was expected of them when they were drafted. |

Which is the extreme minority.
All Im trying to say is eventually there comes a time you have to cut loose what youve got because, 1. the value for the player may never get as high as it is through an heir of mystique and 2. its simply not realistic to put everyone on the ice.
Recently we've hit a jackpot on defensemen, however the odds will eventually catch up to us. |

I don’t think anyone disagrees a move has to be made. I just don’t think they’ve peaked in their value. |

You simply just do not know. For a lot of guys, who look good in juniors and college, it just doesnt seem to come together in the NHL. |

What a bust Howden was - nyrangers9479
I'm not a Howden fan by any means but it's hard to call him a bust in my eyes. He was drafted 27th in 2016 and has played the 15th most games in the draft class and has the 17th most points. He's done that playing 3rd/4th line minutes and PK. I don't think he deserved any more minutes than that, and likely got more minutes than he deserved in some cases. I also don't think he's long for this team because we have people that can replace him but so far he's outperformed his draft position by a decent bit so calling him a bust is a stretch |

I get what ur saying and not trying to start a huge 15 page debate over it, but that’s why their called prospects haha. On the flip side to what ur saying look at a guy like Graves, looked like he couldn’t make it, we got 0 value for him and now he’s a top 4 shutdown dman. |

32 games, 1 empty net goal from Strome bc Strome felt bad for him and passed up his own empty net goal to give it to Howden. He’s a bust. Bad on draws, bad 5 on 5, not physical, doesn’t score, I don’t know what’s to like about the guy. And the PK nonsense is just that, nonsense bc when he was out with covid they didn’t skip a beat on the PK. |

Yah not a fan of his and have said so for two years. But I have to give it to any player making the nhl. It’s a special league that not many make it too |

It's not even really worth debating because they could have traded him today or they could trade him in the offseason and I wouldn't have cared. But look at that draft, there's a handful of people drafted after him that are flat out better than him, fox and lindgren being two of them. There also Olli Juolevi who was drafted 5th and played 15 gp, Kieffer Bellows drafted at 19 with 22 gp, German Rubstov at 22 with 4 gp. Those are the busts of the draft. Maybe we just have different definitions of busts but to be a late first round pick and have 3 full seasons under your belt by the time you turn 23 isn't a bust to me. Disappointing sure but the guy is an NHL player that will likely bounce around the league for a while.
Also, he's bad at faceoffs but he's our best center at faceoffs. Better than Zib by 2% and Strome by 4%. Obviously not saying that makes him good at faceoffs and certainly not saying he's close to those two in any other way but just pointing that out. |

that Capitals traded for Mantha is an interesting one
they get even bigger up front, who would have thought THAT was possible
on the surface, it sure looks like they gave up a lot, but Vrana is gonna be a RFA, who knows what he is going to get, now they have cost certainty, they know Mantha's contract until 2024
as it stands they have about 10 million to sign Ovechkin and Samsonov depending on who they lose to Seattle
probably main reason they havent signed Ovechkin yet is so they dont have to protect him |

I do a full court press for Ovechkin in the off season. IDGAF who they already have on the wings. |

If I were the Seattle GM - I would take Ovi off their hands if he went unprotected. He looks like he can play another 5 years

I think Jimmy is saying he won't be eligible to be taken without a contract. |
