No, he will almost certainly not be anywhere near that efficient while playing top minutes for Detroit. At the same time, his rate of production is so incredibly good that he can take a pretty big nosedive and still end up being pretty damn good.

Possible. Another thing i don't like about this trade is they traded away size and toughness in Mantha when they already needed more of it not less. Maybe Mantha didn't hit as much as he could and he didn't fight much anymore because of injuries but at least he could. Now the Wings have what, Erne, Smith maybe Bertuzzi if he ever plays again this season. This team was soft as butter and this trade made it worst.

I like Mantha a lot even if he floats and like i said i could live with trading him if Yzerman at least filled a glaring need. If he had trade Mantha with a prospect and pick for lets say Werenski, then hell yeah i would have been good with it since it would fill a glaring need. If it was for a top 6 young offensive center...fine again it fills a glaring need. Mantha for Vrana just seems like a lateral move at best (depending on what they do with the picks of course).

Yeah I get where you're coming from. Mantha for Vrana is pretty close to lateral, slight step backward. IMO the picks make the deal definitely worth it but I can imagine feeling let down if you were hoping for a center or maybe like a top 10 pick.

And for the record Mantha was probably my favorite current Red Wing. I think the reputation he has gotten for being lazy or disinterested or inconsistent is mostly undeserved, and I think he is going to look really good in Washington.

I think my favorite part of the Red Wings fans commenting is how they are attacking others for saying that the trade was obviously a setback for Washington and that Stevie Y literally fleeced Washington.
On Facebook folks are even comparing this to Erat for Forsberg, and yet when you come to read about the fleecing from Red Wings fans perspective they’re literally bashing and destroying anyone who says that the trade was lopsided.

I’m not sure why you guys keep attacking people personally - including the comments that I’m quoting here, when all that happened here was Steve Yzerman traded a player for a better player, a 1st and 2nd round picks.
