Mantha should score tonight. Caps have already scored 4 goals in the 1st period. He has an assist. - gergeswillems I bet he will average over a pt a game now!!!

What a snipe, he had so much room and time. He's going to benefit more being on a line with other guys that are going to be covered closer than guys like Namestnikov. No discredit, it is Philly defense, but that was a beauty. Hope Mantha thrives there. |

But like I said, his linemates are future HOFers!

Holland never would've made a trade like Yzerman did yesterday. He was "play it safe" Kenny Holland after the Salary Cap was implemented. Kenny liked giving up futures as in draft picks and prospects.
He traded Anders Eriksson and 2 1sts for Chris Chelios in 1999.
Slava Kozlov and a 1st for Dominik Hasek in 2001. Not a trade deadline deal. Helped by the fact Hasek threatened to retire if he wasn't traded to Detroit or St. Louis.
Jason Williams for Kyle Calder in 2007.
Todd Bertuzzi for Shawn Matthias and a 2nd in 2007.
Sean Avery, Max Kuznetsov, 1st, 2nd for Mathieu Schneider in 2003.
Thomas Fleischmann, 1st, 4th for Robert Lang in 2004. - gergeswillems
Aside from Eriksson (depth player), Williams (depth player) and Avery (depth player that pissed off his own teamates), it was all prospects and picks in deadline deals

Just thought i should post it here since i didn't see anyone mention this (maybe i missed it) while saying how great Vrana was and how the Wings won the deal with that swap alone.
Vrana was a healthy scratch a couple of games this season. The reason seems to be the same reason people complained about Mantha.
In his decision to shelve one of the team’s leading goal and point-getters, Laviolette hinted on Friday that it was due to Vrana’s system play and defense. “We’ve had many conversations just about his play with regard to the competitiveness of it and the speed of it. He is a very skilled player but there are other aspects of the game that are very important… We’re looking for a higher level of play.” |

When I look at the data we have over the last several years for both Vrana and for Laviolette, I'm generally inclined to blame the coach more than the player. |

Mantha was a healthy scratch himself this season, along being benched for a 3rd period (at least once) as well. I am a Mantha fan, but it’s been frustrating more times than not watching him play. It’s like he was lacking inspiration for putting his best foot forward, shift in shift out, game in and game out. His last game as a Wing....his shootout try, left me shaking my head as an example. That was the best he could do?
I don’t know much about Vrana (outside of stats etc).
Everyone has been comparing these 2, talking about Mantha being on the Wings (the lesser talented team), etc. How about comparing the likes of Mantha to Erne on the same Wings team? Averaging 5.5 minutes less ice time, Erne has the same amount of goals, a better +/-, and everyone sees him work every shift even when he isn’t putting up points. That couldn’t be said of Mantha
Hopefully the change of scenery will do both players some good. |

A coach can't motivate every player to be his best, and some players won't motivate for some coaches. And so some players find themselves traded.

Oshie may be USA HHOF, but I'm highly doubting he ever gets into the HOF. |

That is probably dead on. I love Oshie, trading Troy B for him straight up was fairly lopsided. His shootout goals for Team USA are legendary. Definitely US Hall. |
