When does Dahlin want out ? He probably didn’t sign up for another 2-3 years of sucking either.
The Sabres can compete next year with a competent offseason.
Sakic trades Zadorov for Saad and two second rounders for Toews.
Hopefully GMKA and his new look FO can figure it out. - Pegullaville
You’re asking/expecting quite a bit from Adams
I’ll believe we can be a competitive team when we actually start making these moves we need to
It’s gonna be hard to do with the flat cap though
Adams was trying to make moves all year & teams were barely doing anything
Imo, it’s gonna be harder than u think to put together a playoff roster... let alone one that can compete for the Cup |

Another assumption- but I’ll play along....
if Dahlin is gonna want out in 2-3years, then why bother keeping Eichel ?
Hell.... what’s keeping Eichel here when we can’t even build a top24 team in the league around him?
You said if we traded Eichel then we wouldn’t have “elite” talent
But we will have opportunity to get more
And not that i want to get rid of him,
but a restart on a rebuild that gmtm screwed up could give us the chance to do it again the right way- especially with “franchise” forwards like Shane Wright & Conor Bedard & others coming up in drafts we’d likely be picking high in
And if we had to trade Dahlin bc he wants out too,
then that would just give us even more picks in these upcoming drafts - jdfitz77
To be fair you’ve made some assumptions to, like trading Eichel for Byfield and sucking enough to get Wright or bedard.
We could very well trade Eichel for veteran talent that leads us to 10th in the standings and then willow in a pit of mediocrity.
Look at Calgary and Columbus. While we’ve been picking top 10 and top 5 they have both made the playoffs a few times, both have even won a playoff series in that time frame. I’d also say current day both are further away from a cup than Buffalo is right now. |

I’m not saying we will get Wright or Bedard,
but it’s a strong possibility that we stink bad enough to be in contention for them
There’s other really good prospects in those drafts too- especially 2022
And obviously I’m not saying we should even remotely consider trading Eichel for Vet talent-
That would be a HUGE mistake imo
Can we get Byfield? Maybe not
But I’m not advocating we trade Jack unless we can get elite young talent back for him
There’s been so many mistakes made in this rebuild,
that idk how we still turn this team into a legit Cup contender
I suppose it’s possible
But scrapping this rebuild & starting over could be the better option at this point
It’s at least worth considering imo
And we might have to do it anyways if/when Jack wants out |

Just think it’s smart to consider all options
I’d be for building a team around Jack too....
but we’ve just failed at it so badly over the past 6years that it’s hard to see how we can really do it |

With how good Cozens looks, and the ATM line (Asplund, Thompson, Mittelstadt, because they are money) I’m a lot more optimistic than I was a few weeks ago |

I wouldn’t even need Byfield from LA. They prob would want to keep him to groom him with Jack and Kopitar.
You could get Turcotte (seems to have talent level as Cozens, same draft). A 1st this year and another player like Bjornfoot.
You might “lose” the trade yet win in long run by using cap for other things and briinging a team up together.
Centers of
Beniers
Cozens
Turcotte
Mitts
A strong D core of
Dahlin/joker
Bryson/Borgen
Samuelson/Johnson
Bjornfoot
Still have returns from Sam and Risto. A high pick next year most likely
That looks like a great young core. |

5th pick in 2019 (turcott)
7th pick in 2021 (week draft)
And
Bigfoot. 🤔
Seems pretty light for eichel. Probably have to take a bad contract too.
Byfield
7th 2021
Now signed iafallo
Another A prospect.

Yeah way too lite.
I’d do Byfield and Bjornfort and a 1st possibly
I need whatever teams best prospect period.

Bottom 6 looks good with Mitts, Thompson, Asplund, Bjork, Ruotsalinen, Girgensons (overpaid but good in his role), Okposo (by default).

I’m ready to build around Cozens, Mitts and Dahlin. Eichel and Rinehart gotta go. return on Eichel has to be a top 6 center. Anything else you can get will be pure profit. - Hatboro_Swords

If Reinhart plays center
Skinner/Eichel/Olofsson
R2D2/Reinhart/Cozens
ATM Line
Bjork/Girgensons/UFA/trade depth defensive specialist
I think that's a viable top 9.
Cozens/Reinhart can swap between C/W
I'd rather move Olofsson or move him down but IDK |

Between R2D2 and Olofsson I think at most you keep one, if not might get rid of both.
Too premature though considering lack of sample size for Arttu.
Eichel, Reinhart, Cozens, Skinner to me are bonafide top 6 forwards. Mitts could put himself in that conversation however him doing it on the third line would be better for the overall team anyways |

Ok, but what’s the top6 look like?
Skinner-Jack-Sam
Olofsson-Cozens-(Quinn?)
Interesting
But it’s depending A LOT on all those kids to produce fairly consistently
Gotta figure out the goaltending too,
or we’ll crash & burn again |

Yeah, legit let Mitts have a full year in a 3C middle six role and let him make the decision for them if he's top 6.
His improvement is so ridiculously important to their success going forward. All the sudden they have three legit viable young centers |

What I would personally do:
Skinner-Eichel-Olofsson
______-Cozens-Reinhart
Bjork-Mitts-Thompson/R2D2
Girgensons-Asplund-R2D2/Thompson
Dahlin-Joker
_____-_____
Bryson-Borgen
Raanta
Georgiev
Maybe Sam plays the middle and Cozens plays the right side.
I think we need at bare minimum 1 more top 6 forward. Ideally we add a second top 6 forward that moves Olofsson into the bottom 6 or off the roster entirely.
Send Eakin to Rochester or buy him out.
Trade Risto for anything you can get for him
Give Seattle a mid round pick to take Colin Miller
Possibly McCabe is retained for a top 4 LHD spot but depends on health and if he even wants to come back here. |
