I am someone who thinks Risto hurts this team with his bonehead plays and he is terrible on transition giving the puck away. I think we could get someone to bite and give us a top 6 in Return. Not going to compare if it will be someone as good as Reinhart. 20 goal scorer with a bit of grit.
As for Reinhart I do feel like we need a veteran top 4 when trading Risto and Reinhart gets us that. - sabresfan69
So it seems to me that the premise is to trade both of them, and hopefully end up with a pair of players that are overall, combined, more effective than Risto and Reinhart. That's a fair opinion. Don't know how real it is, but it's definitely interesting.
I think if you have a team that's maybe lacking a PPQB and also has the ability to shove him down to the middle/bottom pair, he could be attractive. Said team would also be looking for the Risto intangibles, which are great to be fair. It's that, as everyone knows, he's not good at defense against top half competition, and he's bad at transition. So, could a team take that for 5.4M? Do the Sabres retain 1.4M to make that work to get a guy like, let's say, W Nylander/ Arvidsson/ Mangiapane/ Bjorkstrand? Something to think about.
I wonder if the Caps couldn't handle it or just weren't prepared. I mean, those of us who watch the Sabres regularly weren't prepared for that. We'll easily surprise a few teams but they'll catch on. - Frizzlefry
Could have been, but other than Orlov they are a pretty lumbering defense.
Talking expansion, my new protect list if there aren't trades:
Eichel, Skinner, Reinhart, Bjork, Mitts, Asplund, Tage
Risto (almost chose Borgen, but think he can slip through) Joki, and Dahlin
Expose: Girgs, VO, Miller, and Borgen
See what it would take for Sea to take Girgs, he can be the captain there. - SDSabre
Ask skinner to waive it. He isn't going to be selected.
Borgen over Risto.
Trade risto before the expansion draft or let him be exposed

I think that damages the relationship with the player. Unless you have a deal in place, don't think it's a good idea to ask a guy to waive his NMC. - TheSabresTaco
Explaining how he isn't going to be selected, and by having him waive it would allow us to "protect 10" forwards, don't see how it would be a problem.
it's easy to hate on him and it wouldn't bother me at all if he was traded...but i'm starting to think that the clown will be right when he says risto will be extended...

I will give him this, he is the toughest guy on the team.

explosions. I can't even conceive paying that man to stay longer. And what if it's more than he makes now? Holy Christ.

personally i'd like to see him traded and think he's worth mid-six forward or a couple of picks (2nd, 4th) or a mid-upper level prospect...but it kills me when i see him portrayed as less than chopped liver with an expected return of a top-six forward...does not compute
