The Sabres are now aware of how terrible Cody Eakin is. - TheSabresTaco
FTFY, think it's good to point out it was a recent development lol. My reticence to get behind KA is signing him. He's bad and his production last year suggested that would be the way.
Damn Ralph for making him a staple on the offense getting 3rd line minutes, but dang, I'm not sure he'd be great in the AHL... |

I would like to know if KA was chasing guys that Ralph wanted or if KA was looking for guys that he thought would be good players |

Has a UFA been taken in expansion? Doesn't look like Vegas did. I always assumed because McCabe was UFA, you'd either get a deal worked out in theory before and sign him on July 1st or not. The idea of protecting him and leaving one of Risto or Borgen out there for the taking seems a waste, but is that just not how it works?
I was expecting to lose Asplund or Girgs tbh. - RhinoFan
There is no scenario where Asplund or Borgen is exposed. None, zilch.

Vegas got a 3day (i think) period to exclusively negotiate with anyone who was a UFA to be BEFORE the expansion draft
I’m assuming Seattle will as well
That means Seattle could potentially sign McCabe or Ullmark (or whoever) from us-
but that would end up counting as their “selection” in the expansion draft |

Might have to pick two and expose the other:
Bjork
Asplund
Tage |

It's pretty easy to connect the dots, imo. They explicitly mentioned the desire to fortify the penalty kill, and so they pursued him and Toby. They were players that Ralph wanted. |

Expose Tage or Asplund. It's not a huge loss. |

Adams could also use the 5th from the Staal trade to lead them elsewhere. Or one of the two 3rds depending which player

Ullmark out for the year. Time to move on from him. Its a blessing in disguise. Goalie market is pretty good this year. |

The Ullmark camp certainly can forget about $5+M on a 5 yr deal.
I think it was Crags that came with a 3yr/$12M deal for him. That would work, even knowing his annual injury problems |

I’d be shocked if Eakin puts in another NHL sweater the rest of his career. Pure dog water of a player. IMO, if we had proper NHL scouts we don’t target Staal, Eakin, Miller, Irwin |

After the start of the league year, retain half his salary and give a team a 7th round pick to take him. That would be like $1.12m to the other team, which could functionally disappear via waivers for the team taking him if need be. Could just waive him to Roch I guess but I want him away from everything
He's gotta go
Or find a team to just take him if they're dumb enough to do so |

Miller is still a decent bottom-pairing defenseman. The problem is is celery.
Staal was decent last year. I don't think anyone thought he would drop off like this.
Irwin was never meant to be more than depth.
Eakin has been crap for most of his career.

I am starting to think Kreuger convinced the Pegulas to cut everything and leave it up to him and he told KA who to sign for his 'system' and KA yes man did what he was told.
In completely gutting this organization, and Ralph's hiring of Granato, we somehow may have finally found the silver lining in all of it.
Believe me, I'm unreserved in my critique of everything Sabres, I abhorred Tage and Mitts especially. But despite continuing the losing streak, the team looked different the very first game after Ralph got fired.
I wanted to keep poopting on them believe me but what I saw in yesterday's game is the best Sabres hockey I have seen in probably 12 or 13 years and if Granato can do this 60% of the time, every time, I'm all aboard. |

Dont you think Minnesota and most other teams did?
They traded him for Johansson. They dumped him for nothing
I think everyone knew he was cooked and maybe they were just hoping for some leadership for Cozens and Mitts |

Sure. I just want him as far away from the organization as possible.
I disliked his play from day 1 but watching him do nothing as Dahlin was run made me completely dislike the player. They need to purge the organization of his kind at every level. Tangibles and intangibles, the guy has nothing |
