Dont you think Minnesota and most other teams did?
They traded him for Johansson. They dumped him for nothing
I think everyone knew he was cooked and maybe they were just hoping for some leadership for Cozens and Mitts - sbroads24
I know we've gone round and round on this but everyone other than apparently you loved the trade. In hindsight it was still a worthwhile gamble. We gave up a guy that we didn't care less about to get him and I think we saved on celery to do it.

That's the most disappointing part for me. I thought he'd be a great influence. Jesus, was I wrong |

About 1M if memory serves. Also, doubt we get anything for MoJo in a trade, or anything more than we got for Staal is probably better put. So since both guys wouldn't be here next year, both wouldn't have made a difference in the win column, take the better assets coming back from the name of Staal, that's all he's living on anymore. |

Right, but don’t you think If other teams thought he had a lot left they’d have offered more for him?
People loved the trade because the swap seemed like it was too good to be true. It was a red flag from day 1

We don't know that he wasn't though. Cozens has "it". But he has looked better as the season went along, so maybe there were some teachings along the way. |

i think this is accurate. At the very least they got that and kagm landed a couple picks for him which is notable |

After the start of the league year, retain half his salary and give a team a 7th round pick to take him. That would be like $1.12m to the other team, which could functionally disappear via waivers for the team taking him if need be. Could just waive him to Roch I guess but I want him away from everything
He's gotta go
Or find a team to just take him if they're dumb enough to do so - jcragcrumple
Just buy him out |
|
|
|
Sure. I just want him as far away from the organization as possible.
I disliked his play from day 1 but watching him do nothing as Dahlin was run made me completely dislike the player. They need to purge the organization of his kind at every level. Tangibles and intangibles, the guy has nothing - jcragcrumple

The trade and the value of the trade was good. The hopes and expectations of getting 2008 Staal were way overboard, myself included. |

I didnt like it eihter.
Disliked it even more after hearing Staals* comments. He's not there mentally and it shows.
Having him as your 2 C option was a bad idea to begin with. |

I think the consensus was that teams knew he didn't want to leave Minny and he would have vetoed a trade to them. We weren't on his list.
I don't think it seemed to be too good to be true. As you said, he was a center near the end. Mojo is a good 3rd line winger on a good team. It didn't work out for either team but it isn't like we were trading Mojo for anything of value. |

I think it's a fair offer and good for both sides - Michael Pachla
Pretty sure it was John Madden who once said if you got two goalies, you have none. |

Cheaper to put him in the minors for a year, from what I read.

It did allow Cozens to get his feet wet on the wing and from what I've heard he and the kid had some good rapport. |

It's still pretty amazing that out of the worst stretch in the franchise's history came hope. The one thing I don't hear mentioned around here anymore is blowing it up. You could still trade Jack (which would be stupid) but it wouldn't be part of a rebuild. |

I agree with you, except I think the Sabres were the only team (no pro scouts) who didn’t think he was cooked |

To be fair he had great analytics the year prior.
Even the fancy stats people liked the trade for us.
Only thing was the proverbial age curve, and Sbroads guessed right.
Pavelski is still playing great hockey in Dallas. Unfortunately Staal died this year instead of next year for someone else |

Yep
But still wasn’t cheering for them to lose-
Just knew we were going to,
so might as well take advantage of it
Made a few grand - jdfitz77
Its basically cheering against your team no matter how you cut it. You gotta practice what you preach. Now apologize to pegs and the matter is over. |
