Everything about that Godzilla movie is pure cheese and that's why I love it so much.

I like when Godzilla started to get a personality and (frank) around in the Showa-era, there was no need to be serious with Godzilla at that point and it's the most pure fun, cartoony of all the Godzilla movies. It's when 'Godzilla' as an idea became completely self-aware. At this point, they knew it was silly and they just went straight camp and it's an absolute riot from start to finish. Hilarious stuff and this scene is obviously a legendary status, god-tier meme at this point.

The fact that they somehow managed to top it with the follow up, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla blows my mind. I loved the 70's Showa-era, it's my favorite Godzilla-era.

But Shin Godzilla was about as perfect of a remake of the original as possible. Godzilla has FREAKING LASER BEAMS ATTACHED TO IT'S HEAD. But besides that, it won the Best Picture award at the Japanese Oscars for a reason and the fact it wasn't even nominated for best foreign film by the American Oscars is a travesty.

The guy who wrote and directed the Shin Godzilla is a legendary madman, Hideaki Anno, who made an anime series called Neon Genesis Evangeleon which is set in future Earth after Kaiju emerge during a cataclysmic apocalyptic event, and 12-year old children have to pilot mech-suits made from the souls of their dead mothers to fight over a dozen absolutely sinister-looking Kaiju to defend an under-ground fortress city Tokyo where some of the last humans on Earth are refuged.

I honestly think the Wachowski sisters stole parts from this series for the Matrix. They completely ripped a ton of Japanese movies and shows and manga. Nothing wrong with it, but it should be talked about a little more.
