Hains: Has Anyone Seen the Montreal Canadiens?

The Canadiens didn’t show up to face the Senators this afternoon and the Ottawa outfit signed a 4-0 win.

- Karine Hains

a fortunate win last night was cause for a night off tonight. play .500 hockey the rest of the way and the canadiens will crawl into the playoffs. this is a team built in bergevin's image. make the playoffs and anything can happen. a low bar from the top on down.

I agree Ducharme is gonna have to put his big boy pants on if he wants to have a chance of keeping his job or perhaps getting hired somewhere else, but the players themselves are the ones you should be looking at first if you want someone to blame right now imo... they should be able to wake the (frank) up on their own.

also, I find it's a bit unfair to say DD is a complete idiot, he's had success everywhere he coached previously, gotta give him a chance

- Pat1993

Don't worry, I am not impressed by the players either. I say Ducharme is an idiot because of his line combinations, playing Weber and Staal non-stop (especially Staal when Evans could be playing), and if he can't even be slightly articulate with the media, I somewhat question how he can be much of a motivator or effective coach with an NHL hockey team. He looks like somebody out of his depth. As for his success everywhere else well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_principle .

oh I'm not saying that because he's had success at other levels that his NHL success is 100% guaranteed, but you have to agree it is a peculiar context to start in, and that like players, coaches do have a learning curve. as for the communication aspect you usually don't need to be very articulated to talk to hockey players, and personally I don't really give a poop if he's redundant or boring during post-game press conferences, as long as the team wins.

For sure, I don't care about the presser either, but he isn't doing the bolded even remotely consistently, so that is why I question him as a coach. Gallagher or no Gallgher, this team has the personnel to be head and shoulders above the Sens, so there is absolutely no excuse for that poop show and it falls on the coach and the players.

Bergevin made a huge mistake when he panicked and fired Julien. Game over.

he wasn't perfect by any means but even under an experienced coach like Clode Julien (assisted by Kirk Muller with now 5 years of NHL coaching experience) this team has been very inconsistent... again, not saying that coaching hasn't been an issue at all but I think the problem lies between the players themselves more than anything. individual effort starts there, and once that's established then the coaching staff comes in to break down the finer details

To be honest DD press conference sounds like Romanov, while I understand the latter being brief in his response as he is learning the language but as a coach he needs to learn how to play it right with the media and his answers cannot be robotic especially in a market like MTL. I don’t recall the last time I came across a coach press conference quite like this

I think they came across as better communicators, I feel DD is tense in front of the camera
