Another game where the metrics say the Hawks lost.
- mohel

Metrics, Schmetrix.

I guess its a good thing they only count goals, not metrics

I thought Stillman was labeled a failure after his first shift?

Stepped on the ice with the wrong foot. Can't have that.

That's exactly what I would do with Zadorov. Anything except a multi-year contract in the 3.5M + range , 1) because he's not worth it and 2) because a longer term contract would be harder to move at the next TDL.

Hopefully Stillman slots in all the remaining games and shows something to make Z expendable.

I expect Stan to resign Zadorov for around $3.5 million, the only question is term. 1 year would be ideal, so I’d expect Stan to go for 3.

Colliton with Bowman's urgency will keep pushing young kids, especially dmen. The better they play, more TOI. I personally believe that Bowman has a vision of a mobile skilled deep blueline crew. Last game vs Detroit late in the game for the first time Kalynuk and Mitchell were a pair for a couple of shifts- foreshadowing probably so.

I know Kelly wants to add size and I think if a player they like is available, and has size, they are excited to draft him. Bowman did say when recquired Saad in the Panarin trade, that the team needed more big burly north south players. But you cannot blow off drafting the best player available. You don't know if your "need" type player will be available with top picks. You don't know for sure how other teams will draft. You can have a good idea, but look at last draft. Montreal took the dman Kelly and Bowman wanted. A mean dude & fairly good skater. Fortunately they also really liked Reichel

Presently there is a few forwards at Rockford plus Slaggert who will make this team. They will make it a tougher, more physical team to play. They will engage in cycle game and bodychecks..They represent bottom two lines, though, so I hope Bowman drafts at least one top six.forward.

Preferably two top six forwards and one if not both will not be shy along the boards. The question or concern I have, though, is due the concussion history of Boquist and some lightweight young dmen. Should one of our top choices be a dman if a dman is there whom Kelly and team likes. With a deep 2022 draft I foresee three top young prospects possible (one this year, two in '22)

It will be very telling whom they draft. Would you go with two forwards, one dman ideally

I think the only reason they're keeping Carp around is to have a forward exposed in the expansion draft that meets that minimum games played requirement. Connolly would be the2nd forward. Carpenter won't be selected, so I see him waived next season. If he's not picked up he can play at Rockford with almost no cap hit. This would make room for another prospect.

You can't lowball the kid. All the other free agents will be sad and won't want to play for the Hawks.

Best player available should always be the guiding principle. If you try to draft for size at F or D, then you could end up with prospects like Mark McNeill and Dylan Olsen. Both were touted to have NHL size on draft day but both ended up as busts.

Some of the games best power forwards weren't 1st rounders like Stone, Killorn, Tuch, Bertuzzi, Toffoli, and even Marchand.

If the best player available happens to have size and play a power game, by all means draft them. Otherwise, focus more on talent and ceiling rather than their height, weight, and playing style.

Good game today between the Caps and Bruins. Final was 6-3 Boston but it had a playoff like intensity to it. Sharpie and the other NBC talking heads saying it would be a great 1st round playoff match.

After the 21-22 season when the Hawks sign Seth Jones as an UFA, the Hawks defense pairings could be:

Kalynuk-Jones
Beaudin- Mitchell
Keith/Stillman -Boqvist

Vlasic, Regula, Phillips and Wyatt waiting in the wings the following year after 2's contract runs out.

Yeah I agree best player available. My thoughts were that I hope it turns out that they are two forwards and a dman.

And I am not afraid to draft another dman due to the concussion history of Boqvist and the odds for our other light weight young dmen (in my thinking which it is an issue).

Funny thing or maybe just ironic whom should they draft was a question for Tr Murray between periods of the Detroit game. There is a question each game and they come from fans as I believe Chris Bodin, the radio moderator/host, picks out the question to read. Murray and Bodin chimed in saying basicly same things you just did, Theo

Also have you ugraded your opinion of Regula after the past few games he had played. Possibly see him get a look next season if he keeps improving? With many young dmen it might just be a one game or brief look if a couple dmen have even minor injuries.

I doubt if Jones extends with CBJ. They never sign their impending freee agents. Bobrovsky, Panarin, Duchene, Dzingel etc.

Jones is having a so so year this but the whole Blue Jacket team sucks. He'll probably have a good year next season in his walk year and want Pietroangeli money, about 8-9M a year.

Hawks can offer him and Barkov endorsement opportunities. They could be the new spokesmen for Chevy, Binnies, and BMO Harris Bank

Fair enough, then Stan should go with the standard 6 years at $6 million AAV with a full NMC.

Last night was the first game Regula has played in a quite a while given he's been up and down so much between Rockford and the taxi squad.

Prior to yesterday, Regula wasn't very strong on defense getting beat a lot or just playing passively. It's just one game but last night he did show marked improvement using his size to eliminate opponents and making a single solid pass out to clear the zone.

Like the other young defenders, Regula gets into trouble when he tries to do too much on the rush. Keep it simple until more experience is gained.

Stillman has been a surprisingly good acquisition, he’s not a star but a solid d-man. I think he should return as the #7D next season, especially if de Haan is lost in the expansion draft. Stillman has been improving steadily, he won’t be Seabrook 2.0 but he will be serviceable.

That being said, the acquisition of Stillman is clearly another Bowman fail and he’s a massive bust.

He only has to be better than Carlsson.

That's funny. The Wings have actually only really started their rebuild and have a loooooonnnnggg way to go.

They were clinging to that string of playoff appearances for about three years there where they should have been in full rebuild.

Not sure whoever made that comment, where they get off.... The Hawks had 5 rookies in the lineup last night (Kurashev, Suter, Hagel, Kalynuk, Mitchell), a few players in their 2nd year (Dach, Kubalik, Stillman), a couple 23 yo's (Cat and Strome) and Boqvist would have been in the lineup had he not been in concussion protocol.

Speaking of, that year he was picked, I was hoping Zadina would fall to the Hawks. So far it's looking like the Hawks ended up with the better player.

1 year at 3.2M will make him even more tradeable at next season 's TDL.
